Bloody 'Thanksgiving' trailer released
The allure of holiday-themed horror stories is undeniable, with classics like 'Halloween' and 'My Bloody Valentine' etching themselves into the annals of terror. Eli Roth, the mastermind behind 'Thanksgiving', revealed that he had been waiting for the perfect moment to transform his 2007 mock trailer into a full-fledged feature film.
Roth's innovative approach involved imagining a scenario where the initial 1980 'Thanksgiving' film was exceptionally offensive, destroying all existing copies except the trailer serving as a guide for the reboot.
This creative liberty empowered Roth to shape an original and macabre storyline, giving a nod to the original trailer while blazing a chilling new trail.
Roth recently told Collider that he's been waiting for the story to turn 'Thanksgiving' into a fully-fledged feature film.
He said, "I have to just pretend that Thanksgiving 1980 exists and that it was so offensive that every print was destroyed, and the only thing that survived was the trailer. This is the reboot of what that movie was. Every copy of the script was burned. Every print was burned. The only thing that survived was that one trailer on the internet's darkest corners."
He added, "So, we have to make a movie based on that. This is the reboot of what that was.' That freed me up creatively to go, 'I can use a couple of my favorite things in the trailer, but I don’t have to worry about recreating the trailer.' That trailer was for a movie where every print was destroyed. Now, this is going to be its own thing."
A star-studded cast
'Thanksgiving' boasts of an impressive ensemble cast that includes Patrick Dempsey as the local sheriff, alongside Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon, Milo Manheim, Addison Rae, Karen Cliche, Shailyn Griffin, Nell Verlaque, Chris Sandiford, and Tim Dillon, among others. The identity of the depraved antagonist remains shrouded in mystery, adding to the film's intrigue.
