The Apple Watch Series 9 is here with and it's carbon neutral.

At Apple's "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday, the company revealed the new generation of Apple Watch. The Series 9 has been updated with an S9 chip for faster processing power and a U2 ultra-wideband chip for improved location accuracy for features like Find My tracking. The ultra-wideband chip also integrates with HomePod. It is powered by WatchOS 10 which was released at WWDC 2023 in June.

New to the Series 9 is a gesture that uses a watch hand called "double tap." By tapping your finger and thumb together you can wake your smartwatch with one hand. You can use it to stop a timer, launch the smart stack, and picking up and end calls. Double tap will be available next month.

Siri got an upgrade with Series 9 too. It is triggered on the device, so it doesn't have to ping the cloud for a response. Siri is also integrated with the Health app and will be available later this year.

Invoking Mother Nature in the form of Octavia Spencer, Apple emphasized its push for more environmentally-friendly manufacturing. Series 9 uses 100 percent recycled aluminum in the cases, and its sport loop watch band is made with recycled materials. This year all Apple Watch manufacturing is powered by clean electricity, and packaging is fiber-based is more compact and low-carbon shipping modes. The Series 9 has a net zero carbon footprint , thanks to these initiatives.

Apple is also moving away from leather watch bands, and introduced a leather-esque material called "fine-woven" for its watch bands. Apple is continuing to collaborate with Nike and added new watch bands with Hermes.

The Apple Watch Series 9 starts at $399 and can be preordered today. It will be released on Sept. 22.
