The local police have charged a Chinese couple with ‘murder accompanied by torture’ where BJ Ahyeong was last seen alive

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA: BJ Ahyeong, a South Korean influencer’s body was found stuffed and dumped into a ditch in Cambodia. The authorities confirmed that the glamorous social media personality was found covered in bruises and wrapped in a rug in the Kandal province on June 6. She was a K-pop DJ with over 500,000 followers. The local police have charged a Chinese couple with ‘murder accompanied by torture’ where the influencer was last seen alive.

According to their alleged confession, the couple ran a medical clinic and abandoned Ahyeong's body after she had seizures and died while receiving treatment on June 4. Lai Wenshao, 30, and his girlfriend Cai Huijuan, 39, now face life imprisonment if found guilty. On Tuesday, June 13, Lim Soo-suk, spokesman for South Korea's foreign ministry said local authorities carried out an investigation into the 'unfortunate incident'. “The foreign ministry is providing necessary consular assistance to the bereaved family in a timely manner,” he added.

'Searching for any witnesses'

Ahyeong died in the clinic as per authorities and had a seizure while being given a saline drop with the brand name Sheng Li Yan Shui. The two reportedly panicked and wrapped her in a red mat. The couple then put her in the trunk of a Toyota Prius and decided to dump the body after driving 50 miles away. “In cooperation with the criminal force of the Kandal Provincial Commissioner and the Provincial Armed Forces, we are conducting an investigation into this brutal murder case, and we are searching for any witnesses who may have seen any strangers in the area or vehicle to transport the body,” Kandal Stung District Police said in a statement, as per Daily Mail.

'Provide extra information through the diplomatic channels'

The victim was visiting the country for a vacation along with her friend. Officers are investigating the case trying to determine whether the injuries obtained were before or after her death. The police earlier thought the victim is from China and had been sexually trafficked or forced to stay, a common crime among people from communist China.

The Kandal Stung District Police added, “The Embassy for South Korea has been informed and the family of the victim has been contacted. They will provide extra information through the diplomatic channels to assist the police investigation.”
