Moira gets an overhaul in a new Overwatch 2 blog post.

On June 7, Blizzard released an in-depth look at Moira's rework in the highly anticipated Overwatch 2. The blog post also gives players an insight into how much time and effort Blizzard is putting into making sure each hero has a unique and practical skill set. One of the most noticeable changes between Overwatch and its sequel is that classic characters are getting redesigns and are being reworked to create a familiar, but fresh feel.

Moira came late to the Overwatch roster, but her versatility and unique abilities helped make her a top-tier support character. In their most recent blog post, Blizzard revealed that they were going to rework and remove some of the abilities seen in early Overwatch 2 gameplay.

What's Getting Changed?

Blizzard revealed that they are going to scrap three major abilities that they had planned for Moira. The first iteration of her abilities, named Pain Converter, was supposed to convert damage to health for Moira and negate the damage for whatever teammate she is using the ability on. They decided to scrap this because of how similar it was to Baptiste's Immortality Field, and how it felt unnatural to the character.

The second and third iterations of kits that ended up being scrapped, were Moira's Purge and Nullify. a Purge was originally planned to work as an added ability to her Biotic Orb and could remove buffs from enemy players. The issue they found with Purge is that it was hard to find which buffs could get removed and what impact that ability really had on gameplay. Nullify was supposed to be a rework of Purge, but Blizzard ran into the same issues. This led to the current iteration, Weaken. Weaken is taking the idea of Purge and Nullify, but is being used as a charged-up projectile that lowers attack power and healing output.

With the amount of work Blizzard is putting into Overwatch 2, it's clear that this game will not be a reskin of its predecessor, but a very promising sequel that improves upon what already is a fantastic game.
