Following the NBA Draft Lottery, we now have clarity around the 2023 NBA Draft order, headlined by Victor Wembanyama set to go No. 1 to the San Antonio Spurs.
However, there is a consensus growing around the No. 2 overall pick, which is held by the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets have a lead guard in LaMelo Ball already and could use some scoring prowess on the wing, which has led to forward Brandon Miller pushing ahead of guard Scoot Henderson on the odds board several days following the lottery and combine.
Henderson has spent most of the past year as the No. 2 prospect in this class, spending the season in the G-League with the Ignite, but given the current roster construction of the Hornets, Miller has emerged as a contender to go second after enjoying a fantastic season at Alabama.
Here are the updated odds for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft:
2023 NBA Draft No. 2 overall pick odds
Brandon Miller the Hornets preferred draft prospect?
Henderson was the early favorite in this market, but now it's Miller, who is generating buzz around the draft.
Miller had an outstanding season on the court for Alabama, averaging nearly 19 points and eight rebounds, but was linked to a murder in Tuscaloosa in which he brought former teammate Darius Miles' gun to a crime scene that was used in a murder Miles was charged with committing along with Michael Lynn Davis. While that investigation is still ongoing, Charlotte appears to be doing its due diligence around the matter.
It appears that it's a two player race for who goes No. 2, and the odds reflect that, so it could go down to if Charlotte values the best player available regardless of fit or if the is a bit more deliberate in building a traditional roster.
The NBA Draft is on Thursday, June 22, so we are inside of one month until this ongoing story is settled.
