In a video posted on TikTok, a bride and her future mother-in-law were seen having a heated argument during the vow exchange ceremony

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: The serenity of a wedding ceremony was abruptly broken when the mother-in-law unexpectedly voiced her disagreement toward the bride, who had just delivered a heartfelt speech about her husband.

This shocking incident, which left the attendees in disbelief, has since become a hot topic on the Internet, with many reportedly raising "red flags."

As seen in a video recorded by one of the attendees, the bride was left embarrassed and infuriated when her future mother-in-law chose to chastise her at the altar after she humorously pointed out her fiance's "flaws" while reading out her vows.

The mother-in-law reportedly 'always hated' the bride

The TikTok video, originally shared by the bride's sister, Sarah Ragsdale, from San Jose, California, in 2020, has since been removed from the platform.

She wrote in the caption, "My sisters wedding a few years ago. Her MIL has always hated her. She's just ones of those MIL's that feel my sister is taking her son away," as per The Scottish Sun.

In a subsequent video that has also been removed, Ragsdale further elaborated, "Her MIL sat there as they finished their ceremony. Went outside and waited until they went outside to take their wedding pics just to start s**t again."

Since its occurrence, the startling video of the ceremony has been shared again on @funny.freakouts, garnering a staggering 4.3 million views. It has also amassed over 425,000 likes and over 3,000 comments from astonished viewers who shared their thoughts on the family dynamics.

The shocking wedding day drama

The 31-second clip shows the bride and groom standing face-to-face at the altar during their vow exchange. Subsequently, the bride can be seen reading from a piece of paper.

However, soon the unidentified mother-in-law interjected, asserting, "You do not have to say my son has flaws," as the groom nervously laughed and asked his mother to "be quiet," and the bride stepped in and suggested that she could "leave."

In response, the mother-in-law raised her voice and retorted, "No. I don't have to leave. The dress you're wearing - we paid for it!"

As other attendees tried to pacify the agitated woman, the bride said, "You're not gonna ruin my wedding," to which the mother-in-law responded, "You're not gonna say my son has flaws!"

The bride countered by stating that "everybody has flaws," and that it was one of the reasons she loves and still wants to marry her fiance. This led the mother-in-law to say, "Like you don't have flaws," following which her son and the bride asked her to leave the ceremony.

In a heated moment, the bride marched up to the mother-in-law in her seat and declared, "You can get out of my wedding now."

The woman defiantly yelled back, "I'm not leaving!" before the video abruptly ended.

Internet reacts to mother-in-law's 'red flag' actions

Shocked TikTok users expressed sympathy for the bride while criticizing the mother-in-law’s behavior, which they labeled as a "red flag," as per Daily Mail.

An X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "Feel horrible for this couple, especially the bride. The moment she dreams of and this woman ruins it. Just horrible."

Another said, "if she doesn’t like her why’d she buy the dress if she’s just gonna throw it in her face like that smh disrespectful," as a person added, "Abusive and manipulative lol. That’s why."

On Reddit, users even dubbed the mother-in-law a "Karen," as one user wrote, "Karen ruins son’s wedding over the idea of having flaws," said the user.

The bride's sister provided an update on the couple's relationship with the mother-in-law

Sarah Ragsdale, the bride’s sister, later disclosed in a TikTok comment that the couple is now happily married. She confirmed that the original video had been removed due to the mother-in-law receiving death threats, as reported by Daily Dot.

"My sister is fine & happily married," further stated, adding, "The MIL is no longer in contact."

After a user shared the joyful news on Reddit, another user responded, "Good for them! Nice to know that he chose his wife rather than his mum."
