The St. Louis Cardinals decided to bring back one player who brought excitement to the team earlier in the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals had a rough start to the season, with the team looking to figure out some solutions to turn things around. There was the benching of Willson Contreras, only to return as the team's starting catcher a week later. But after the Cardinals' series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in mid-May, they have not won a series since (vs. Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, and Kansas City Royals).

Now, the Cardinals are bringing back a player they hope can help turn around their season.

According to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, the Cardinals are recalling top prospect Jordan Walker, who will be on the active roster for the team's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.

Cardinals calling up Jordan Walker to help turn the season around

Before the start of the season, the Cardinals named Walker to the Opening Day roster based on his play throughout spring training. Walker got off to a historical start, as he recorded a hit in each of his first 12 games. With that, he tied Eddie Murphy of the 1912 Philadelphia Athletics for the longest hitting streak by a player 20 or younger to begin their MLB career.

But after the winning streak, Walker struggled in the batter's box. On Apr. 26, the team sent Walker down to Triple-A. At the time of his demotion, Walker recorded a .274 batting average, a .321 on-base percentage, a .397 slugging percentage, two home runs, eight runs scored, 11 RBI, and 20 hits.

Walker played in 29 games for Triple-A Memphis, where he slashed .239/.348/.398 while recording four home runs, 14 runs scored, 16 RBI, and 27 hits.

St. Louis sits in fourth place in the NL Central with a 25-32 record and 4.5 games behind first place ahead of Friday's series opener against the Pirates. what Cardinals fans can get excited about is Walker will be with the team during their road trip.
