Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt was dominant on the mound against the Mets on Friday but he had much bigger things on his mind.

Chris Bassitt had an eventful Friday night from both the personal and baseball perspective.

On the baseball side of things, he was facing off against his former team, the Mets, and trying to keep his Blue Jays on the winning track.

But the personal side of things was far more pressing and more important.

While Bassitt was slinging it on the mound, his wife was in labor.

Bassitt got the win with 7.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits while striking out eight.

It's hard to say how the impending birth of his child affected Bassitt's performance but it was a bit of a bounceback. His last two starts resulted in losses as the pitcher gave up nine runs across the two games. Friday's outing was a return to form.

It would have been easy to get distracted playing his old team, let alone knowing what was going on with his wife and child. Bassitt kept his cool and delivered an impressive performance before jetting off to take care of his family.

George Springer gave Bassitt some early run support with a first inning home run. Then in the ninth inning, Daulton Varsho hit a two-run homer to seal the 3-0 victory.

On Saturday, Toronto put Bassitt on paternity lead while he and his wife care for their second child. However, he's not expected to miss his next start in the rotation when the Blue Jays host the Astros on Wednesday.

Bassitt is now 6-4 on the season but he got a different kind of win on Friday night.
