LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Season 1 of Amazon Prime Video’s mega-expensive action-thriller ‘Citadel’ has finally concluded with a finale that was filled with slam-bang action and some epic revelations. Over the course of six weeks, we saw Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) trying to save the world from Manticore, a diabolical organization trying to destroy the planet. The aforementioned duo went through many obstacles to complete their mission and unraveled many secrets.

In the final episode of the series, Mason (Richard Madden) completed the ‘Red Cell Mission’ to extract the nuclear cores from Russia’s automated nuclear submarine. He, along with Nadia and Agent Spence, traveled to Valencia to give those cores to Christoff. However, Mason wanted to see her daughter before giving cores to Manticore. 'Citadel' Season 1 Ending Explained: Here's why [SPOILER] betrayed Citadel

'Citadel' Episode 6 Review: What is the 'Red Cell Mission' and how it connects to Mason's mysterious past

Season 1 ended with a massive revelation that Mason was responsible for Citadel’s downfall. In one of the scenes, Mason gets his memory back and he sees that he wanted some help from Dahlia (Lesley Manville) in finding Nadia. During the conversation, it is revealed that Dahlia is Mason’s mother and wanted to destroy Citadel from the beginning. Dahlia lost her husband after a missile strike that was apparently done by a Russian terror cell. However, she later found out that the missile strike was carried out by Citadel and they hit their building because they had wrong coordinates.

Mason is devastated after getting to know so much about his past and is remorseful for the things he has done. But the story isn’t over yet and it looks like ‘Citadel’ will return for another season.

Will there be a Season 2 of 'Citadel'?

Over the course of six episodes, viewers got to see Mason and Nadia going through a lot of things. The first season explored the duo’s relationship, Manticore’s goals to burn Citadel to the ground, and Mason’s past which actually turned out to be the most important aspect of the show. But worry not, it’s not the end of the road for both characters because Amazon has already renewed ‘Citadel’ for another season.

According to a press release by Amazon, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, noted that ‘Citadel’ is truly a “global phenomenon” and will surely return for a second season. It has also been revealed that Joe Russo will direct all the episodes of Season 2.

“This show has drawn an outsize number of new international customers to Prime Video. Its massive worldwide debut audience is a testament to Joe and Anthony Russo’s remarkable vision, the incredible talents of Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lesley Manville, and Stanley Tucci, and the tireless work of the creative teams, cast, and crew. Given the overwhelming number of our customers who have embraced this show, we are not only thrilled to share the premiere episode of Citadel globally without membership, but also confirm that the series will return for a second season,” Salke said in the press release.

As far as the cast is concerned, it is highly possible that we'll see Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Richard Madden, and Lesley Manville reprising their roles in the second season as well. Season 2 doesn’t have a release date or window for that matter. So, viewers would have to wait a little longer to know when they’ll be able to Mason and Nadia back on their screens.

'Citadel' Season 1 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
