Dallas Cowboys franchise quarterback Dak Prescott provided an update on how things are going in picking up head coach Mike McCarthy's West Coast offense.

It may be another year of Dak Prescott playing for Mike McCarthy on the Dallas Cowboys, but this season could be different for so many reasons.

While Dallas was able to retain defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for a second offseason in a row, the Cowboys decided to move on from their former backup quarterback and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. He landed with the Los Angeles Chargers almost immediately, but this change-of-guard offensively is all about setting Prescott up for success. The plan is to be more run-heavy.

Prescott did provide an update on how he is coming along learning the West Coast offense.

With Tony Pollard getting franchise tagged and Deuce Vaughn being a big-time draft pick for them, now is the time to ground and pound to try to win with Quinn's dominant defense one last time.

Dallas faces huge expectations this season, but for some reason, I believe it can achieve them.

Dak Prescott provides an update on how he is adapting to West Coast offense

I am not the most proficient in X's and O's, but from what I can remember, the scheme Moore ran in Dallas was somewhat in the vein of what Sean McVay does over with the Los Angeles Rams. A lot of motion behind the line of scrimmage, while trying to 11 personnel the opposition to death. However, McCarthy's offense is very much, cut-and-dry West Coast attack. So how will this work?

I think it will create easier throwing lanes for Prescott as a passer. The verbiage associated with the West Coast can be a tad tricky, but Prescott is a professional and he will figure it out. What McCarthy is hoping to get right this time around as a head coach is not abandon the run when it isn't working. His teams did not run the ball very well when he was with the Green Bay Packers.

Furthermore, Green Bay's inability to run the ball effectively largely contributed to their defense being gassed by the end of games. Outside of their 2010-11 run of dominance, Green Bay never had the defense it needed to win championships consistently when McCarthy was the head coach and Aaron Rodgers was the quarterback. However, Dallas has the defense to do something great.

Overall, a West Coast offense may be exactly what Prescott needs to take his game to the next level. He is accurate enough as a passer, but putting him into an offense that will hide his weaknesses and accentuate his strengths only serves the entire Cowboys operation. With a second-place schedule, who is to say the Cowboys cannot get to the NFC Championship game?

We are not going to know how well Prescott has adjusted to the scheme until right before Week 1.
