Michigan neurosurgeon, Devon Hoover, was found dead inside his house on April 23 during a welfare check

DETROIT, MICHIGAN: The devastated family of a prominent neurosurgeon, who was murdered in April, has started a GoFundMe to collect money to give a $20,000 reward for tips that can help find his killer(s). Devon Hoover was found dead inside his house on April 23 during a welfare check.

At the time, his body was found with gunshot wounds and was inside an attic wrapped in a plastic sheet. His death was declared a homicide and since then search for his killer(s) is on. As per GoFundMe, “The family and friends of Devon want to help bring justice by raising a $20,000 reward for the first person who comes forward to the Detroit police or Crimestoppers with a tip leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect in this murder case.”

‘Any donations above the $20,000 goal will be donated’

"All funds raised up to the goal of $20,000 will be turned over to Crimestoppers to handle the reward process. After one year, if no qualifying tip has been received, the reward money will be donated to the Detroit Opera (www.detroitopera.org) and Fraternite Notre Dame (www.fraternitenotredame.org), two organizations Devon loved and supported. Any donations above the $20,000 goal will be donated equally to the organizations mentioned above,” the fundraising campaign, launched on June 13, adds.

This new campaign was created after a previous one did not get the desired results. In May, authorities announced a $1,000 reward for tips that could help nab Hoover's murder(s). A person of interest was taken into custody in late April but was freed eventually.

‘Devon was a pillar in his neighborhood community’

Besides, GoFundMe has described Hoover as “a revered neurosurgeon with a successful practice in Detroit, Michigan. A well-loved and kind brother to six sisters, an uncle, and great uncle, and the only and beloved son to his parents, Devon was a pillar in his neighborhood community and a dear friend to many.”

“He was well-known as a generous, compassionate man. He hosted neighborhood Christmas parties, invested in the Detroit Opera by serving on the board, and touched the lives of his patients with both surgical skill and uncommon kindness,” it notes.

Earlier, a neighbor of the dead doctor said, “Devon Hoover was an exceptional person in nearly every way. A loving son and brother, a brilliant, accomplished surgeon, an unrivaled collector and caretaker of all things beautiful, and a champion of art and culture. But perhaps most admirably, he was beyond generous with his time and his treasure. He was one of the first neighbors to take me under their wing, offering old house advice, support, and kindness all along the way.”

He added, “Hospitality was certainly his specialty as he never hesitated to open his spectacular home to countless neighbors, friends, and charitable organizations. For a man small in stature, he was indeed larger than life. Like so many of our friends and neighbors, Nhu and I are still in shock and totally heartbroken. I pray that there’s a heaven and that Devon is there now, drinking wine and resting from his many labors. May his good life be remembered and may his memory be eternal.”
