The documentary 'The Killing Season' is now back in focus as the prime suspect of the case, Rex Heuermann, is under arrest

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Documentarians Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills are followed in the immersive series 'The Killing Season' as they look into one of modern history's strangest unsolved serial killer cases. The documentary is about Long Island's Gilgo Beach, where ten sex workers were found dead. Authorities had claimed one suspect, who had evaded capture for the past five years, was responsible for the unsolved cases. The documentary is now back in focus as the prime suspect of the case Rex Heuermann, a 59- year old architect, is under arrest.

Heuermann was apprehended on Thursday, July 14, and his home in Massapequa Park was closed off on Friday as a heavy media presence was nearby. On Friday afternoon, he was accused of three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder. Heuermann entered a not-guilty plea to the charges. As the case proceeds, web sleuths have been fascinated by the developments. Recently, a keen observer noted a minute detail from 'The Killing Season' where documentarians Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills made a call to an anonymous tipster, and the tipster's voice is 'incredibly' similar to Heuerman's interview with Bonjour Realty.

Did Heuermann call 'The Killing Season'?

Positing an eerie theory, a user wrote on Reddit, "Did Heuerman Call in a fictitious Tip to the Documentary, The Killing Season Part 1? Over the weekend, I rewatched the Killing Season Part 1 to see if any clues pointing to Heuerman were concealed in the 2015 documentary. Lo and behold, in episode 3 (12:25 minutes in)."

'Incredible similarity in voice tone'

The user added, "I was suddenly startled and amazed by the incredible similarity in voice tone and inflection between Heuerman's interview with Bonjour Realty and a call documentarians Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills made to an anonymous tipster answering their Backpage ad for information."

They also speculated, "Thinking about the call, it appears to sync with the propensity of these serial murderers to insert themselves into the investigation and correlates to Heuerman's obsessive internet searches regarding the case. I am interested if anyone else makes the same connection?"

'It does sound like him'

Another Redditor concurred with the OP, writing, "Comparing this YouTube (https://youtu.be/Z5NzqHQ9F8k) to The Killing Season call, back and forth. It does sound very similar." Someone else wrote, "Dude, I think you're onto something here. It does sound like him when I compared, and why else would he say the LISK killed himself?" While the theory appears to have gained some traction, it has to be remembered that it is entirely unverified.
