LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicole Kidman has been at the center of speculation surrounding her relationship with her adopted children, Isabella and Connor, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. After their divorce, Nicole's connection with her older kids seemed to crumble, with Isabella and Connor appearing to maintain a close bond with their father instead. This has left fans wondering if Nicole's younger daughters have a relationship with their older siblings. Here's what we know.
Tom and Nicole's Divorce
Following Tom and Nicole's 2001 divorce, it was revealed that Isabella and Connor chose to live with their father. Nicole accepted their decision, saying in a 2010 interview with Hello! magazine, "They live with Tom, which was their choice. I'd love them to live with us, but what can you do?" Furthermore, in a 2007 interview, the actress shared a poignant detail about her relationship with her minor children, stating, "My kids don't call me mommy. They don't even call me mom. They call me Nicole, which I hate, and tell them off for it."
Nicole's marriage to country singer Keith Urban in 2006 added another layer to the complex family dynamics. With Nicole splitting her time between Sydney, Australia, and Nashville, Tennessee, and Tom having properties in different locations, including Colorado, London, and Florida, it seems Nicole lived far away from her older kids, making it challenging for them to establish a closer bond. Consequently, the strained relationship likely extended to Nicole's younger daughters as well.
Nicole's relationship with her older kids now
Regrettably, as time has passed, Nicole's relationship with her oldest children hasn't shown signs of improvement, even after Isabella and Connor entered adulthood. Nicole did not mention either of them during a Golden Globe Awards acceptance speech in 2018, indirectly suggesting the strained nature of their relationship.
Speculation has also arisen that Isabella and Connor's involvement in Scientology, which Tom is famously associated with, has also contributed to the distance between them and Nicole. While Nicole has chosen not to speak publicly on the subject, she has expressed respect for her kids' beliefs, stating in a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "I've chosen not to speak publicly about Scientology. I have two children who are Scientologists—Connor and Isabella—and I utterly respect their beliefs. They are adults. They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists, and as a mother, it's my job to love them."
Isabella and Connor, on their part, have never spoken negatively about their famous mother in the media. They have defended their relationships with her and emphasized their close-knit family ties. Isabella stated in a 2012 interview with New Idea, "I love mom. She's my mom. She's great. I see her sometimes and I speak to her...We're a very close family. I love all of our family." Similarly, Connor expressed his love for his mom in a 2014 interview, saying, "I love my mom. I don't care what people say, I know that me and Mum are solid. I love her a lot. My family means everything. Yeah, I love my music, but the family comes before everything else."
Complex sibling dynamics
Not only are Isabella and Connor seemingly distant from their younger half-sisters, but they also appear to have limited contact with their younger sister, Suri, Tom's daughter with Katie Holmes.
Following Tom and Katie's brief marriage from 2006 to 2012, Katie obtained full custody of Suri. Reports suggest that Tom hasn't seen Suri in years, indicating that Isabella and Connor likely have limited interaction with all their younger half-sibling, according to The Things.
