During Monday’s episode of the fan-favorite-themed week, Pat Sajak snapped at Christian for 'going against the rules'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pat Sajak, a wheel-spinning and quip-dropping charming host of America’s favorite game show, ‘Wheel of Fortune', has been known for his playful jokes and cheering a lucky player. He is the heart and soul of the show, with over 40 years of hosting experience. Sajak is the master of keeping the audiences and contestants of the show engaged and entertained.

It's not uncommon for Pat Sajak to respond sternly to contestants on the show if he feels they’re breaking the rule or behaving inappropriately. During Monday’s episode of the fan-favorite-themed week, Pat Sajak snapped at Christian for “going against the rules” as the latter grabbed a card instead of waiting for Pat to reach for it. It is something that contestants can no longer do. Christian Dixie is a social media influencer who is a puzzle-solving extraordinaire and appeared as a contestant on Seasons 37 and 40 of ‘Wheel of Fortune'.

'Don’t ever do it again'

The recent episode of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ aired on May 8th, 2023, has created quite a buzz over the show’s host Pat Sajak’s slamming a returning contestant, Christian Dixie. Christian was called upon on the show for a fan-favorite week and went up against other competitors, Blair and Caitlin. Among his competitors, Christian earned the maximum of $19,300, moving him to the next bonus round. For this round, he chose the 'Phrase' puzzle category, and Pat asked him to spin the bonus wheel to get his letter from the provided ones- R, S, T, L, N, E.

When the wheel stopped, Christian grabbed the card and handed it to Pat instead of waiting for him to reach for it. This act is something that contestants cannot do anymore. At that moment, Pat stopped briefly and informed him and the audience saying, “In fairness, we used to do it that way; the player would pick up the thing...but don’t ever do it again.”

Although Pat understood that Christian was reinstating the show’s earlier rules, the former acted sternly to not repeat the mistake twice in case he came back on the show. In his response, Christian jokingly said, “If he did, he’d just take over Pat’s host sport on the show.” Nonetheless, Christian was not bothered by the incident and solved the puzzle, taking home over $64,000 and a new car.

Pat Sajak snaps at Lori Ryan and Preston Leslie

For Pat Sajak, this is not the first time he has been firm with a contestant on the show on-air. In April, he slammed a player (Lori Ryan) for on-stage habit. He seemed annoyed at how Lori was calling out her letter while trying to solve the puzzle. She and her fellow contestants, Kimberly and Weston, were finding it hard to solve the puzzle. At first, Lori said, “I’d like the letter ‘T’ please, a ‘T.’" In response, Vanna White, co-host of the show, said, “Well, since you did it multiple times, we’ll give you T.” Again, for her second letter, Lori repeated, “I’d like to buy ‘E’ please, ‘E’.” This time Pat snapped, "Yeah... there's three 'E's,' I heard you. I got it." Despite her efforts, Lori couldn’t complete her puzzle.

Another instance of Pat taking up with a contestant (Leslie) during the get-to-know-the-players segment aired in late April. “Leslie Battles! Ozark, Arkansas!” said Pat, to which Leslie responded, “That’s right!” Pat was seemingly fooling around with Leslie, and she was completely ready to interact with him. Unfortunately, just like Lori, Leslie’s attitude couldn’t help her win the game.

Although Pat Sajak is constantly seen fuming over the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestants, it is worth noting that he generally maintains a friendly and light-hearted demeanor. Any moments of sternness are usually in service to maintain the integrity of the game.
