Erik ten Hag hailed Christian Eriksen's impact off the bench in Manchester United's 1-0 victory against Kobenhavn after the midfielder assisted Harry Maguire's winning goal.

The Red Devils largely struggled to create chances against a stout Kobenhavn defence at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening until Eriksen's half-time introduction. After bringing on the Danish midfielder, Man Utd's offensive performance notably improved - having double the amount of efforts on goal in the second half.

Ultimately, Eriksen would assist the only goal of the game, whipping a deep cross into the box which was met by Maguire at the back post in the 71st minute.

Speaking to the press after the win, Ten Hag was keen to stress the impact Eriksen had on his team's attacking performance in the second 45.

"He was part of it, definitely. I think our build-up got fluid, more fluid, once he came in. But we made some adjustments in other positions, in other constructions and cooperations," Ten Hag said.

"But Christian definitely played a big part in that. His timings were good to get free and on the ball his decision-making was good and the best example was the assist for Harry Maguire's goal."

Having lost their first two games of their 2023/24 UEFA Champions League campaign, the win over Kobenhavn was a much needed one for Man Utd - who now sit one point behind second-place Galatasaray in Group A.

Speaking about the win itself, Ten Hag hailed his side's 'fighting spirit' which saw the Red Devils narrowly see off Kobenhavn: “There is a very good spirit in the dressing room, they are together, they fight together, they celebrate together and if we have setbacks they support each other.

"I think that spirit is always needed to be a successful team. The win was justified but it was a narrow escape.”
