Erling Haaland has suffered an injury scare just nine days before Manchester City are scheduled to face Liverpool in a heavyweight Premier League clash.

The Norwegian twisted his ankle during Norway's 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands having entered the field as a second half substitute. Haaland did not need to go off, but appeared to be in significant discomfort after going to ground.

Haaland previously came off at half-time in the 6-1 mauling of Bournemouth at the beginning of the month with an ankle problem - the 23-year-old's teammates clearly not missing him on that occasion as Premier League new boy Jeremy Doku ran riot.

Norway have one more Euro 2024 qualifier to play before the international break ends, but with Spain and Scotland already through from Group A, their clash against the latter may be one Haaland misses.

After his injury, Norway's team doctor Ola Sand told TV2: "It was much of the same that happened against Bournemouth a week-and-a-half ago. He has had it before too.

"He gets a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly. Then we'll see tomorrow how he is then.

"Now he will receive some treatment, then there will be peace and rest and then we will see how he is tomorrow morning."

Haaland played 35 Premier League games in his debut season at the Etihad, scoring a record-breaking 36 goals, and played another 18 in all competitions as City went on to claim a historic treble that included a first ever Champions League crown.

He has been an ever-present in the Premier League this time around, with this substitution against Bournemouth and an 79th minute exit against Burnley the only times he's not played the full 90 minutes.

The Ballon d'Or runner-up has also picked up where he left off in terms of goalscoring - he leads the Premier League goals charts with 13 and has scored four goals in four Champions League group stage games.
