TAIPEI—We see lots of laptops announced at Computex every year, but one that's truly caught our eye in 2023 is the Acer Predator Triton 16 (PT16-51), a sleek-looking gaming laptop that promises uncompromising power and even more portability than before. We got a closer look at the new gaming rig at Computex 2023 and have some first impressions.

Powerful Gaming Muscle

The Predator Triton 16 has plenty of gaming power inside its even-slimmer chassis, thanks to a 13th-Gen Intel Core i9 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. Paired with up to 32GB of memory, it's a potent platform to deliver fast frame rates and smooth gameplay in even the most demanding titles. The graphics performance gets an extra boost in DLSS 3.0-compatible games, where frame rates skyrocket and features like ray tracing are made more reliable, all making games more immersive than ever.

The rest of the hardware inside includes up to 2TB of storage with PCIe M.2 SSDs, an Intel Killer DoubleShot Pro radio with Wi-Fi 6E for the best possible Wi-Fi and wired networking, and a fingerprint reader for seamless Windows Hello logins. As for wired connectivity, the laptop includes dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a Thunderbolt 4 connection, and a micro SD card reader.

Sharp and Slim

The most striking feature of the Predator Triton 16 is its sleek and portable design. Measuring just 0.78 inch thick, the slim chassis has an all-metal design that looks way more chic than the average gaming machine. Add a silver finish, and it hardly looks like the gaming powerhouse it is. (For comparison, its predecessor, the 16-inch Acer Predator Triton 300 SE measured 0.86 inch thick.)

It's not entirely without gamer-friendly aesthetics, though. The keyboard's per-key RGB lighting gives you all the colorful glow you want, and it can be easily customized with Acer's PredatorSense software.

On top of that, the Predator Triton 16 has an impressive 16-inch 2,560-by-1,600 IPS display, delivering 500 nits of brightness and 100% DCI-P3 color. It's made even better with Nvidia G-Sync, which eliminates screen tearing and judder by syncing the display's 240Hz refresh rate to the GPU output.

Triple-Threat Cooling

Acer is tackling the cooling needs of all that hardware with a trio of technologies, combining a pair of the company's 5th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans (the same used in 2022 and 2021) with Vortex Flow optimization, which uses thermal foam to keep the cool air where it's needed most, and liquid metal thermal grease on the CPU. The combined cooling should keep performance high despite the laptop's slim chassis design.

The Predator Triton 16 (PT16-51) is set to launch in North America in September, with prices starting at $1,799.99.
