Everything you need to know about Flying-type Pokémon

Flying-type Pokémon are everywhere. From being a secondary typing to one of the franchise's mascots in Charizard to being one of the first kind of Pokémon you'll encounter on any playthrough of Pokémon, you'll likely be seeing a lot them. Here's everything you need to know about Flying-type Pokémon.

What is a Flying-Type Pokémon?

Flying-type Pokémon are mostly Pokémon modeled after birds. Like birds, you can find Flying-type Pokémon everywhere. On the first route of nearly every Pokémon game, you can find the "regional bird" Pokémon, or the Flying-type that predominantly inhabits the game's region. An interesting fact is that there are only three purely Flying-type Pokémon in the entire Pokédex, and three more that have it as their primary type of two, with the rest all having the Flying-type as a secondary type.

Flying-Type Pokémon Weaknesses

There are three kinds of moves that Flying-type Pokémon are weak to, and they are pretty common types that Pokémon can learn, so making sure you know when it is no longer safe for your flying-type Pokémon to be in the battle is key. Electric, Rock, and Ice-type moves all do super-effective damage to Flying-type Pokémon.

Flying-Type Pokémon Strengths and Resistances

Flying-type Pokémon boast one incredibly useful immunity to Ground-type moves. This means hard-hitting moves like Earthquake are not a problem for Flying-types to handle. Flying-type Pokémon also both resist and do super-effective damage to Grass, Fighting, and Bug-type Pokémon, all types you will see a lot of on any run.

Best Counters for Flying-Type Pokémon

Electric, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon all resist Flying-type Pokémon, and since Electric and Rock-type moves both do super effective damage as well, those two types are probably the best Pokémon to bring if you're concerned about taking down a Flying-type. Really the only difference between the two would be which one fits better as a part of your team's composition.
