If the Georgia football program locks in for the next few days, it can continue being dynastic.
One reason why the Georgia football program has gone to new heights under Kirby Smart the last few years has been its relentless approach towards high school recruitment.
Admittedly, Georgia has always recruited well. High school football is a huge deal in The Peach State. Top-flight recruits have long been well-aware of what the Dawgs are all about up in Athens. However, the two-time defending national champions are firmly the hunted in college football. Everyone wants to knock the Dawgs down a peg after having won the last two national titles.
Of course, it will be awfully hard slowing down the Mean Machine in Red and Black if they continue to marvel in recruitment. For the next several days, it will be all about in the trenches…
Georgia already landed Michael Uini in June for its 2024 class. The Dawgs just picked up Daniel Calhoun out of my alma mater of Walton on Wednesday. With Nyier Daniels picking his school on Friday, Marques Easley on Saturday and Casey Poe on July 12, these next few days could make or break Stacy Searels' offensive line room for years to come. This is such a critical stretch for them.
As of Thursday, Georgia already has 24 commits for 2024 in its No. 1 recruiting class, including three five-stars, 14 four-stars and 11 ranked inside of the top 100 in the 247Sports Composite.
Georgia football can continue its dynastic run by winning big in the trenches
Smart may be an elite recruiter himself, but you have to remember that he is a defensive back at heart. While he does a tremendous job of empowering his position coaches and coordinators to coach, none of this is going to matter long-term if the Dawgs can't keep their blue-chip quarterback prospect upright. I mean, who doesn't want to block for Dylan Raiola in a year or two?
I think a big key for Smart, Searels and the rest of the Georgia staff was the team's ability to promote Mike Bobo from within to become the offensive coordinator once again once Todd Monken returned to the NFL to go coordinate the Baltimore Ravens. Bobo had an outstanding run as the Dawgs' offensive coordinator previously, working with Matthew Stafford and Aaron Murray.
Searels replacing Matt Luke as the offensive line coach was a tad controversial when it first happened, but the Dawgs haven't lost a game in his second stint as their offensive line coach. Regardless, Georgia needs to continue to build off its success on the football field in recruitment. The Dawgs will lose games again at some point, but winning in recruitment sustains the program.
Look for the Dawgs to continue to build on one of the best recruiting classes they have ever had.
