GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA: A California student with special needs has criticized her high school, alleging that her teachers called her a "bigot" and "homophobic" because she declined to learn about lesbian sex. Thelma Gonzalez, a student at Glendale High School, was enrolled in a health and relationships course by her mother, Marina Vivar.
Vivar had requested that her daughter be exempted from lessons on "anything LGBTQ+ or about sexual acts which were gay in nature" by ticking a specific box. According to Thelma Gonzalez, her exemption request was ignored and she received instruction on sexual acts involving lesbianism, such as scissoring and the usage of female condoms. According to Vivar, her daughter was labeled as "bigot, intolerant, and homophobic" by teachers after she spoke out against the class.

'There are male teachers inside the girls' locker room'
Speaking to Glendale City Council on Tuesday, May 9, Vivar said, "My daughter was taught such acts as scissoring. When my daughter expressed that she should not be in these classes, she was called a bigot by her teacher, she was called intolerant, and she was called homophobic. These are all terms she didn't know, they are not part of our vocabulary at home. She simply expressed that due to her Christian beliefs it goes against her morals. At that point a staff member told her to look at her skin color."
Gonzalez also told the city council, "I once got in trouble in the girls locker room because I did not dress down in front of other people. There are male teachers inside the girls' locker room. I was scared, I was terrified, because I was afraid of an adult male staring at me while I was changing." An investigation led by Principal Benjamin Wolf was conducted and it concluded that there was no such wrongdoing.
It 'was a general lesson from the health textbook'
Glendale High Communications Director Kristine Nam told Fox News Digital, "The lesson Ms. Vivar is referencing was a general lesson from the health textbook about making healthy decisions in your relationships. The teacher did ask Ms. Vivar's daughter to refrain from making inappropriate remarks in response to a reference to LGBTQ+ relationships. We have investigated the interaction and have not found any evidence that inappropriate remarks [for instance, referring to the student as a 'bigot'] were used by the teacher. We will continue to thoroughly investigate."
