Sam Champion’s ‘glaring error’
During Sam’s live on-air weather forecast on Tuesday morning, May 9, at WABC-TV, he appeared to have messed up for the first time in his 25-year-long career. He even admitted to “trying to hide the mistake.” However, it was his co-star Heather O’Rourke and his fans who didn’t let him get away with it.
On his Instagram Live from the set of the morning show at WABC-TV on Tuesday, a fan asked him about his missing segment from the day’s episode. The fan wrote, “What happened? You didn’t do the full seven-day forecast and Heather [O'Rourke] looked very confused.”
Sam playfully responded, “Please don’t tell everybody!” But he was then interrupted by his co-star Heather, as she jumped in, saying she wasn’t quite confused but “more shocked.” Although Sam was not concerned about the topic discussed, Heather explained what happened. She said, “So, Sam was supposed to go with the seven-day forecast, the long weather. And it’s supposed to be two to three minutes long, and I think it went 45 seconds.” She added, “I thought I had some more time," and so she was still editing maps to do her own traffic segment. Heather continued, saying, “And guess what, he was just like, Psh. I’m done. Peace out. And I was like, What? What?”
Well, Sam jokingly thanked his fans and Heather for pointing out his “glaring error” which he tried to hide. He also added that he wasn’t aware of the mistake until Heather called him out.
‘Can we do a re-do?’
Sam's blunder encounter comes days after he witnessed Robin Roberts (host of 'GMA') make an on-air blunder. While reporting about car thefts and how the police were focusing on the issue, she barely made it through the segment.
While doing her segment, she began, "Cities are cracking down on car thefts." but then she fumbled, "What police are handing out for free–." "They could have been handing. Could have held. Heading, heading, heading elsewhere," started stuttering. She then laughed at her blunder and moved on to the next topic about ‘tiny tweaks to your resume’. She commented, reflecting on her mistake with the topic, adding, “I am glad I don't have to send out a resume right now," "Can we do, re-do? Can we do a re-do?" Robin pleaded.
Supporting Robin, Sam assured that he is “so with her today, saying, "I still think that even if you're at 60 percent, Robin, you're better than most people's 100 percent.” Robin replied, "Oh, well I appreciate that you put me at 60 because - ," she shook her head and didn't finish her sentence. Robin called Sam her trial balloon who keeps her prepared for the rest of her workday.
