In the post-pandemic workplace, virtual meetings are unavoidable and plentiful. If you're frequently double-booked (or tend to zone out), Google Meet has some new AI-powered solutions to help keep you on task.

As The Verge reports, Google's Duet AI feature will soon be able to take notes for you. Click a button and Duet will generate a meeting summary, including action items and key points, Google announced at its Cloud Next conference. Look for it in Workspace Labs in the next few months.

If you can't attend a meeting, Duet will also be able to attend in your absence—sort of. In reality, it'll just generate notes that other attendees can see and discuss. As The Verge notes, this may result in everybody ditching meetings; if that happens, Meet will reportedly end the call. This won't show up in Workspace Labs until next year.

Google also teased dynamic layouts for Meet, which will adjust based on the number of participants and the size of their screens to make it easier to see everyone on the call.

As Google describes it, Duet AI embeds "the power of generative AI across all the Workspace apps." Google has already rolled out AI-enhanced versions of Search, Gmail, and Google Docs. It's also reportedly supercharging the Google Assistant with AI, and is testing a tool that uses AI to write articles for journalists.
