NAPA, CALIFORNIA: Celebrity chef Michael Chiarello has died at the age of 61 a week after falling ill due to an "acute allergic reaction."

He breathed his last at the Queen of Valley Medical Center in Napa, California, and was comforted by his close friends and family during his final moments.

Though the exact cause of death is unknown, the Food Network star is said to have suffered from an allergic reaction that doctors believe to have led to anaphylactic shock.

The celebrity chef is best remembered for hosting 'Easy Entertaining With Michael Chiarello' on Food Network and 'NapaStyle' on Fine Living Network.

The former show garnered good reviews throughout its ten-year run, during which time Chiarello bagged the award for outstanding service show host back in 2005.

Chiarello was a native of Red Buff, California. He was born into an Italian-American family in 1962 and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1982.

After spending some time working at Florida restaurants, he returned to California and concentrated on his own culinary enterprises in the Napa Valley.

'Food Network' star Michael Chiarello sued on sexual harassment charges

Twin lawsuits were filed back in 2016 against Chiarello and his Gruppo Chiarello restaurant group, which included Bottega Ristorante in Yountville and Coqueta in San Francisco, by two former employees.

Asja Sever and Katherine Page have alleged instances where Chiarello and other management and staff at Coqueta contributed to creating an excessively hostile, abusive, and sexually charged environment in the workplace.

Additionally, a class-action lawsuit filed against the restaurant group accused the organization of failing to pay wages and overtime compensation along with forcing employees to pool their tips along with the kitchen staff.

'Food Network' star Michael Chiarello owned multiple restaurants

Chiarello led a successful career as a chef and restauranteur, owning over ten restaurants and similar assets.

Apart from his Italian restaurant Bottega, Chiarello also owned Spanish restaurant Coqueta at Pier 5 in San Francisco.

He was previously the owner of NapaStyle in Yountville, California before the store closed its doors.

'Food Network' star Michael Chiarello practiced sustainable living

According to Chiarello's website, the celebrity chef had a penchant for sustainable living and tried his best to incorporate environment-friendly practices both on a personal front and while running his successful gastronomic empire.

He combined his love for sustainable living with his fascination with wine, and as a result, the Chiarello Family Vineyards is a small-production winery that has garnered criticism and several accolades.
