Epic Games, accused of charging Fortnite users for unwanted items, agreed to pay $245 million to those impacted by the ongoing issue with in-game purchases. According to the Federal Trade Commission, some customers even had their accounts locked after disputing the charges with their credit card companies. Now, the millions of gamers can begin the process of claiming their refunds.
The FTC is sending out emails to those eligible to file a claim for a refund. Although some users received emails as early as Sept. 19, the FTC plans on contacting Fortnite users over the next month. The emails will contain your all-important claim number.

To apply for a Fortnite FTC Refund, you must file an official claim with the FTC here. Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your grievance.
Make sure you either have a claim number from the email you received or your Epic Account ID. You can find your Epic Account ID by first signing into your account here. Then, head to your Account to locate your account ID listed under Account Information.
Who Can Apply for Fortnite FTC Refund?
According to the FTC, anyone 18 years old and over can apply for the Fortnite FTC refund if they experienced one of the following:
- Charged in-game currency for items they did not want between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Their child made charges to their credit card without the parent's knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Their account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after they complained to their credit card company about a wrongful charge.
What is the Fortnite FTC Refund Deadline?
The Fortnite FTC refund deadline is Jan. 17, 2024. All Fortnite users looking to file a claim must do so within the next four months.
