Officials said there no threat to community after the Idaho mass shooting suspect was immediately taken into custody

KELLOGG, IDAHO: Around 7:30 PM on Sunday, June 18, the Kellogg Police Department and Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mass shooting incident at a home that left four people dead. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, was immediately detained by law enforcement authorities. Officials also mentioned that there is no threat to the community and confirmed that the Kellogg Police Department and the Idaho State Police is investigating the case.

The incident took place at multi-dwelling units behind the Mountain View Congregational Church in the city about 58 kilometers east of Coeur d’Alene, the Shoshone News-Press reported, as per The Washington Post. All four people killed in the shooting died of gunshot wounds. A recent Kellogg High School graduate named Devon Smith was allegedly one of the victims killed in the rampage, a reliable source told The Idaho Tribune.

"We have heard from a reliable source that one of the victims in tonight’s shooting in Kellogg Idaho was a recent graduate from Kellogg High School named Devin Smith. Our sources indicate that he was caught masturbating in class, and several posts on Facebook indicate he was masturbating and looking at underage girls in his back yard," the publication wrote on Twitter.

'Such a horrific event'

In the wake of the shooting, several social media users took to Facebook to react to the incident. "This is such a horrific event. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the entire community of Kellogg. It's happening way to much in our small communities and we need to do all we can to check up build up and stop tearing down our neighbors friends and family. May God be with us all," one user wrote.

"I ask that maybe we all collectively bow our heads and pray for our community. We need to heal. There is too much heartbreak happening. Innocent lives impacted by God knows what. Please just send all the good you can. My prayers are for the victims and the families of all involved tonight,and for all who feel the heartbreak that is happening in our community," another added. "Heartbreaking," a third simply wrote.

One said, "So very senseless and tragic, so much evil in is in the world, God please comfort the families of the lost lived ones, prayers for the souls that they would be in heaven" while another mentioned, "Prayers to family and friends so sad."

'My heart breaks for the community'

Several concerned people also posted news about the shooting on Twitter and commented on how this was the new normal. "My heart breaks for the community of Kellogg, Idaho. There was a mass shooting. 4 people were found dead inside a Kellogg home. There’s a suspect in custody & the Sheriff says there’s no active threat," one wrote. "The world used to this now So sad," added another. "Normal day in USA," a third commented. One user said, "Enough is enough , can someone actually do something about this," while another simply tweeted, "Thoughts AND prayers."
