IKEA Channels Their Furniture Assembly Instructions in Recipe Posters

IKEA instructions are a lot easier to follow in recipe form.

Compared to putting together IKEA's furniture sets, assembling one of the brand's meals made from frozen food is easy. But a promotional campaign from the Swedish company aims to make preparing their food even simpler with help from recipe pages inspired by their instruction manuals.

As Co.Design reports, the IKEA Recipe Series features infographic-style cooking instructions that call for ingredients from the store’s frozen food section. Home cooks are meant to work directly on the sheet itself: The illustrations are sized for portioning out the exact amounts of each ingredient. The poster is made from parchment paper and its ink is non-toxic, so once all the components have been laid out it can be folded up and popped in the oven as is.

The steps are conveyed in IKEA’s typical image-focused style, but these recipes should take less time to put together than a seven-piece armoire. The posters were handed out in 18 Canadian stores during IKEA’s kitchen event in 2016, as part of the chain's recent trend of treating their food offerings as less of a random quirk and as more of a main attraction. According to one rumor, IKEA is even considering making stand-alone restaurants a part of their business model.

The limited-edition posters were claimed fast, and there's no word on whether or not a similar campaign will make its way to stores in the U.S. For now, you can take a look at some of the recipes that were featured in the video below.
