LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kaley Cuoco has disclosed that she received a diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) due to holding her 5-month-old baby daughter, Matilda. The actress from 'The Big Bang Theory' welcomed her daughter in March 2023 with her partner and fellow actor Tom Pelphrey.
In an Instagram post shared by trainer Ryan Sorensen, the 37-year-old showcased a hands-free workout to demonstrate how she is adapting to her diagnosis.
Is Kaley Cuoco OK?
She began by explaining, "Some of you may know I have this major wrist/hand injury from holding the baby. It's a very real thing - Google it! I think the only way to make [my wrists] better is for us to start working out without using my hands, and without using any body weight on my hands."
Kaley acknowledged that the diagnosis might sound "crazy," but she wanted to show that "you can still get a workout even if you are injured."
According to the NHS, carpal tunnel syndrome involves pressure on a nerve in the wrist, leading to tingling, numbness, and pain in the hand and fingers, with symptoms typically worsening at night.
The Health Body suggests at-home treatments like wearing a wrist splint, taking pain relievers, performing hand exercises, and avoiding actions that worsen the condition.
In the Instagram video, Kaley appeared with her blonde hair pulled into a casual updo, sporting a makeup-free look and a white cropped tank top. She wore two black braces around her wrists and black, high-waisted leggings that fit snugly.
Trainer Sorensen explained in the caption that Kaley has been experiencing numbness and tingling in her hands and arms due to a pinched nerve, mostly caused by holding the baby.
Trainer Sorensen wrote in the caption, "No Hands Workout. Since having her baby @kaleycuoco has been suffering with what’s called Carpal tunnel syndrome, basically numbness and tingling in the hands and arms from a pinched nerve…mostly due to holding the baby.
"So, [rather] than laying off her workouts, we just adjust and make them more about lower body and core work. Always finding ways to work around these things and most importantly no excuses!"
To adapt her workouts, they have focused more on lower body and core exercises. Kaley demonstrated her athletic prowess by completing challenging circuits that included squats, high knees, mobility drills, and running.
Kaley has been in a relationship with Tom Pelphrey since May of the previous year, as confirmed by a heartfelt Instagram post. Before that, she was married to equestrian Karl Cook, and their divorce was announced in September 2021 and finalized in June 2022.
While they parted amicably, Kaley has previously discussed the challenges of adjusting to life post-divorce, expressing to Glamour magazine that she would not consider getting married again.
