LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sofia Vergara is taking steps to protect her assets amid her ongoing divorce proceedings with estranged husband Joe Manganiello. The couple ended seven years of their marriage after the 'True Blood' actor filed for divorce in July.

Vergara, 51, now seeks the court to enforce the former couple's prenuptial agreement which was signed before their marriage in 2015. Troy Christiansen, an attorney for the actress has cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their separation mentioned in her own divorce response, according to court documents, reported ET.

Vergara wants to leave the marriage with all properties divided between them

The 'Modern Family' alum is seeking prenup validation that would allow her to leave the marriage with her property separated, including artwork, jewelry, her earnings, and other personal effects before, throughout, and after the date of their separation which is listed as July 2. Christiansen also mentioned that each party will be responsible for covering their respective attorney fees.

Given her successful career that has named her the highest-paid actress by Forbes in 2020, it comes as no surprise the 'America's Got Talent' judge wants to protect her assets. Her role as Gloria Pritchett on 'Modern Family' and becoming the judge on the talent competition show in 2020 earned her a net worth of $43 million. An increase in her revenue also resulted from her endorsement deals with major brands like Walmart and Rooms To Go.

Inside Vergara and Manganiello's divorce

After Vergara's engagement to businessman Nick Loeb came to an end, she began her relationship with Manganiello, 46, in 2014. The relationship began when the 'Magic Mike' actor got her phone number from Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who was Vergara's Modern Family co-star. He then took her out on a date after he flew to New Orleans. After six months of being together, the duo got engaged and officially tied the knot on November 22, 2015.

On July 17, the estranged couple issued a joint statement to confirming their separation. "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for the respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," read the statement. A source close to the situation previously told the outlet that the exes have been "living separate lives."

Days after the duo announced their split, the 'Spiderman' actor initiated their divorce proceedings. Meanwhile, Vergara celebrated her birthday in Italy and eventually returned to her Los Angeles home. "Sofía’s living her best life. She’s spending time with her friends after being stifled in a relationship with a largely unsupportive partner," an insider told Page Six.
