Jalen Ramsey was the prized acquisition for the Miami Dolphins this offseason but suffered an apparent knee injury in training camp and was carted off.

When the Miami Dolphins traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey this offseason, it was supposed to be yet another step to put Mike McDaniel's team over the hump. But the training camp injury gods are playing a cruel game in South Beach.

Dolphins training camp just got underway recently, but on Thursday in practice, Ramsey was covering Tyreek Hill in a drill when he went down holding his left knee, per ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.

Ramsey was then taken to the sidelines and evaluated by trainers for several minutes before the cart came out and took the star defensive back to the locker room for further treatment and evaluation.

Jalen Ramsey injury update: Latest on Dolphins CB at training camp

We don't have any further updates on the nature of the injury or the status of Ramsey. However, Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou told Pro Football Network's Adam H. Beasley, "He's gonna be good." That came after the conclusion of practice when the fellow DB had seemingly spoken to Ramsey in the locker room.

There is no official word from the team, however.

After parting with veteran cornerback Byron Jones in the offseason as well, Ramsey, Xavien Howard and Kohou were tabbed as the top players at the position on the roster, giving the Dolphins a formidable secondary to complement what many expect to be one of the most potent offenses in the league if Tua Tagovailoa stays healthy — and if there are more upgrades to still be made.

The Dolphins do have solid depth on the roster with second-round rookie Cam Smith, former first-rounder Noah Igbinoghene, Nik Needham (on the PUP list, and Keion Crossen. Even still, no one is capable of replacing Ramsey, who has consistently been one of the best corners in the league for several years running now.

We will continue to update you on Ramsey's injury as more information is revealed.
