James Maddison says he wants Harry Kane to remain at Tottenham despite ongoing interest from Bayern Munich.

James Maddison has admitted he is eager for Harry Kane to remain at Tottenham but claimed the speculation surrounding the striker's future is not affecting the team.

Kane is in the final year of his contract and has attracted interest from Bayern Munich, who have made a third and club-record offer for the England captain. A response has yet to be communicated from Spurs while the German giants are keen for a quick resolution.

The striker expects to stay at Spurs if no agreement with Bayern is reached before their season opener against Brentford on 13 August.

Maddison, who recently joined Tottenham from Leicester in a £40m deal, is eager to play alongside Kane in the upcoming season.

"We were friends before I joined Tottenham from the England squad, we have similar interests and get on well anyway away from football," Maddison said.

"I would love Harry Kane to stay, he's the best number nine in the world in my opinion. But what will be will be and Harry is super professional."

Despite the discussions about Kane's future dominating the start of Spurs' new era under Ange Postecoglou, Maddison asserted that the team remains focused and unaffected, including Kane, as they prepare for the forthcoming campaign.

"It hasn't been a distraction, Harry is super professional," Maddison added. "I won't go into details because I don't know anything and let's be respectful about Harry's situation.

"Everyone knows what Harry Kane is like, he's a super professional guy and whatever club he is at, whenever he goes into training he gives 100 per cent and it's the same as all the lads so not at all really."
