'Jeopardy!' host Mayim Bialik faced backlash from fans as she did not even attempt to read a contestant's response and producers had to intervene

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Jeopardy!' host Mayim Bialik has been facing intense backlash for everything she does. It seems as if she is being scrutinized for every move she is making on the show. Just two days ago, she was slammed by fans for snubbing a contestant's win.

However, this time she did something unfathomably rude as she did not even attempt to read or understand one of the contestant's handwriting. Her lack of effort eventually caused the producers to intervene and explain what was written. She barely seemed interested in reading the response, igniting an awkward reaction from the contestants.

'Sorry I can't read that'

The host, Bialik, immediately ruled out the writing of the contestant by saying, "What is: Sorry I can't read that." She may have understood the handwriting if she had attempted to read it, instead of just neglecting the response entirely. The competition took place between returning champion Suresh Krishnan and rival Tim Hagood. Hagood revealed that he actually wrote, 'The Importance of Being Ernest' but the writing railed off a bit and made it illegible for Bialik.

In the competition between Krishnan and Hagood, it was eventually found that Krishnan was already in the lead, going to 'Final Jeopardy!' with $15,800 while Hagood had only $7,200. Even though Krishnan was a clear winner, fans still hoped Bialik would at least attempt to understand responses to declare a winner.

The intervention of producers

It was only the intervention of producers, who whispered his response in her ear, which led Bialik to acknowledge what Hagood had tried to say. Bialik's reaction made it seem like she did not know about the book that was being referred to by Hagood. She baffled fans not only with her lack of reading capability but also with the fact that she kept asking a contestant to be more specific about clues. A YouTube user commented, “Mayim said "What is: I cannot read that." in Final Jeopardy.” Another user replied to the comment, saying, “So rude, ask what he wrote,” while another user noted that this was not new behavior and wrote, “She’s done that before… and sometimes didn’t even give the contestant a chance to say what they had written.” A fourth user posted, “Anyone else notice the players run out of time more often to finish all of the clues while Mayim is the host versus when Ken hosts, or am I wrong to say that?”

A summary of the episode had also been shared on Reddit. On the post, a user commented, “IMO it was unnecessary to ask for specificity in the Curie question. The clue already made it clear they were talking about the husband.” Another Reddit user mentioned, “Yep, it was unfair to ask you to be more specific where you have to rush to partially reread the question.”
