AUSTIN, TEXAS: Joe Rogan has always been open about his obsession with "cooking meat over fire." Even on the Fourth of July, the UFC commentator posted a video of himself on Instagram preparing steak over a fire to commemorate Independence Day.

It was not, however, the first time a podcast host shared his obsession on Instagram. He previously uploaded videos and recipes of his meat cooking on the internet and has been chastised by his supporters for his cooking methods.

'I have become obsessed with cooking'

Back in 2021, Rogan posted a video in which the meat itself appeared to be nice and tender. Rogan's caption, on the other hand, is where things started to get strange. He wrote, "I have become obsessed with cooking meat over fire. I get prepared for it. I make sure I’m hungry before I cook it." He further added, "The smell of the smoke and the aroma of the crackling meat ignites some ancient genetic memories. It makes cooking and eating significantly better."

As many people pointed out on social media, Rogan's caption made it appear to his followers that he was the first person to discover the pleasures of both grilling and eating when hungry. His reference to "ancient genetic memories" cranked things up a notch.

A user questioned, "Ignites some ancient genetic memories?" Some other followers criticized Rogan's style of cooking. One wrote, "Source of every sickness." Another one asked if it can be eaten, "Joe do u eat all that?" Another user mocked him, saying, "Ur describing what a meal is," with a fifth agreeing, stating, "Joe discovers dinner." A commenter also joked, "Local man discovers fire," and another said, "Breaking news: local man discovers what cooking is."

'I haven't s**t my pants yet'

Rogan announced that he was embarking on a carnivorous diet in January 2020 as well as 2021. Things did not go as planned when he went on this extreme diet even without fruit in 2020. Rogan shared an Instagram photo of the ribeye steaks he ate for breakfast. He claimed to have had severe diarrhea. Rogan wrote, "Carnivore diet update; the good and the bad. Let’s start with the bad. There’s really only one “bad” thing, and that thing is diarrhea," in an Instagram post.

He added, "I’m not sure diarrhea is an accurate word for it, like I don’t think a shark is technically a fish. It’s a different thing, and with regular diarrhea I would compare it to a fire you see coming a block or two away and you have the time to make an escape, whereas this carnivore diet is like out of nowhere the fire is coming through the cracks, your doorknob is red hot, and all hope is lost."

"I haven’t s**t my pants yet, but I’ve come to accept that if I keep going with this diet it’s just a matter of time before we lose a battle, and I fill my undies like a rainforest mudslide overtaking a mountain road," Rogan continued. However, he did admit that the diet had noticeably increased his energy levels and he felt happier and more balanced, which is perhaps why he tried the diet again the next year but included fruits with meat and has been doing it every January since then to celebrate World Carnivore Month.
