SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK STATE: In a startling turn of events, an Oregon man, John Michael Irmer, walked into an FBI field office and made a chilling confession - admitting to a brutal crime committed nearly 44 years ago.

Irmer, 69, allegedly confessed to the cold-blooded murder and rape of Susan Marcia Rose, a native of Pennsylvania, in 1979.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office revealed that Irmer had met Rose at a Boston skating rink

What did John Michael Irmer do ?

According to the DA's Office, Irmer walked into the Portland FBI field office last month and recounted how he had met a woman with red hair at a skating rink around Halloween.

“This was a brutal, ice-blooded murder made worse by the fact that a person was charged and tried—and fortunately, found not guilty—while the real murderer remained silent until now,” said Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden in a statement.

The two entered a home on Beacon Street, which was undergoing renovation at the time, and it was there that Irmer committed the gruesome act.

He reportedly used a hammer to strike her in the head, followed by the horrifying sexual assault, before fleeing to New York the next day.

The victim, Susan Marcia Rose, had red hair and was discovered bludgeoned at the Beacon Street residence just a day before Halloween. Her injuries included skull fractures and brain lacerations.

Reportedly, another individual had been previously suspected and charged with this violent crime, but he was acquitted during a trial in June 1981. Irmer's confession sheds new light on the case.

What are the charges against John Irmer for Susan Marcia Rose's rape and murder?

John Michael Irmer, remanded without bail, is facing charges of murder and aggravated rape.

Crucially, Irmer's DNA matched samples that had been preserved from the crime scene, confirmed his confession.

During his arraignment on September 11, Irmer mostly remained hidden from view in the courtroom as per CBS Boston.

Shockingly, Irmer went further during his confession to FBI agents inOregon, expressing a desire to admit to several other murders.

This revelation has raised concerns and led to ongoing investigations into other potential crimes he may have committed, including another homicide in the South, according to Boston Globe reports.

Assistant District Attorney John Verner mentioned this additional case during the court proceedings.

It is worth noting that Irmer had previously been convicted of the robbery and murder of a drug dealer in San Francisco in 1983.

He had spent three decades behind bars for that heinous crime.

These recent developments have sent shockwaves through the criminal justice system, reopening old wounds and raising questions about other unsolved cases that may be linked to John Michael Irmer's dark past.
