Johnny Depp has served as the face of Dior's Sauvage perfume since its launch in 2015

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Johnny Depp is making a grand comeback! Last year after winning a lawsuit against his former wife, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is now riding on new success as the French luxury cosmetic brand Dior has extended their partnership with the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star for a record-breaking deal of more than $20 million. It is also reported that the deal has guaranteed Depp’s presence as the face of the ‘Sauvage’ perfume for at least another three years.

It is to be noted here that, last year when the legal drama was ongoing between the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star and Heard, Depp lost deals to various franchise behemoths including Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and the ‘Fantastic Beasts’. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ deal that was bombed was reportedly to be around $22.5 million, as told by his talent manager, Jack Whigham, reported by Entertainment Weekly. However, Dior stood by the musician-actor all through his tribulations.

As Depp emerged victorious in the legal battle against the ‘Aqua Man’ star, it was reported earlier in August by TMZ that the 59-year-old actor has signed a new contract with the LVMH-owned perfume brand that would pay him a seven-figure salary. However, the exact amount was not known at the time. Recently, Variety revealed Depp’s deal with ‘Sauvage’ to be worth more than $20 million dollars.

Depp’s connection with Dior

The ‘Edward Scissorhands’ star has served as the face of ‘Sauvage’ perfume since its launch in 2015. While it is interesting to note that Dior did stop airing the campaigns including Depp during the court battle, they immediately resumed after his victory. They also extended the contract reportedly in August 2022. It was also reported that many Dior officials and their photographer Greg Williams attended Depp and Jeff Beck’s rock concerts in Paris in August in support of him. Not only the meeting cemented the deal, but they also had multiple photoshoots with Depp which appeared on the subsequent Dior campaigns.

In a 2021 post, Dior described Depp as “Johnny Depp, uncompromising, profound, authentic. He embodies the dense magic of this new ultra-powerful Elixir. Never has he been so mesmerizing, so rock’n’roll. New SAUVAGE ELIXIR” in their Instagram post.

Not only that, during a financial presentation in January, the CEO of Dior’s parent company LVMH, Bernard Arnault announced that Dior Sauvage was “achieving remarkable success” as it was a market leader in men’s fragrance as it was successfully being “driven by the image of Johnny Depp,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.

While Amber Heard has forsaken Hollywood in favor of Spain and relocated there, the $20 million dollar deal is not the only success that Depp is enjoying at the moment. He is also reported to attend the Palais red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival as his film Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne du Barry’ will be opening the festival on May 16. It is his first big role since the controversy over domestic violence. He was last seen in Andrew Levitas’ ‘Minamata’ in 2020.

'They knew Johnny was the bomb'

One fan celebrated the deal by saying, "The way we can look forward to at least 3 more years of Johnny Depp & Dior… It’s not just#JohnnyDeppKeepsWinning… we keep winning too." Another fan of Depp continued to support him by saying, "W. We WILL be buying to support our brother who was wrongfully terminated." The third said, "They knew Johnny was the bomb…that’s why they stood behind him! Excellent news for them both!!!"

While someone who seemed to be a fan of Amber Heard says, "Not the Dior eye serum sitting in my bathroom right now. Not getting it again after this, Justice for Amber." While another quipped in, "The most disappointing decision ever made this year so far." The third declared, "Oh they’re gross for this, we wont be buying."
