Legal letters and emails uncovered the negotiations aiming to find a peaceful resolution to their marital issues, avoiding the hassles of divorce

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner reportedly made efforts to reconcile with his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, before their relationship escalated into a contentious divorce battle. Legal letters and emails uncovered the behind-the-scenes negotiations aiming to find a peaceful resolution to their marital issues, avoiding the public scrutiny of divorce court.

Unfortunately, the court documents reveal that the negotiations between Kevin's prominent attorney Laura Wasser and Christine's lawyer John R Rydell II were unsuccessful. Consequently, Christine, 49, ultimately filed for divorce, serving Kevin with the necessary legal papers.

'A divorce is not something Mr Costner desires'

Despite the contentious nature of their legal battle, Wasser hinted that at some point, the 'Yellowstone' star expressed a desire to reconcile and live happily ever after with Christine. "Please be advised and advise your client that the separation she initiated and has indicated must move to a divorce is not something Mr. Costner desires," Wasser wrote in her letter to Rydell as per RadarOnline. "For your client to now be in breach of the (PMA) upon which Mr. Costner relied in entering into the marriage is disheartening."

Wasser went as far as accusing Christine of using the children as a means to leverage the situation and contest the prenuptial marital agreement (PMA), while also demanding a significant amount of $248,000. "To use the parties' children as though they were pawns in a game your client hopes to play is unlikely to end well for her," Wasser wrote in the letter. "Please understand that Mr. Costner has no desire to litigate this matter but will do what he needs to do if your client insists on breaching their agreement," Wasser wrote, making reference to the provision that stipulates Christine's requirement to leave Kevin's residence within 30 days of initiating the divorce process.

In recent developments, Christine has agreed to vacate the actor's residence near Santa Barbara, California, on the condition that Kevin agrees to provide court-ordered financial support, the exact amount of which is yet to be determined. The financial dispute between the former couple involves Christine's demand for $248,000 per month, while Kevin intends to pay a five-figure sum instead. A hearing scheduled for next month will decide the outcome of this matter. According to documents filed by Kevin, he accused Christine of making extravagant financial demands to support her lavish lifestyle, including $100,000 for plastic surgery procedures and extravagant shopping sprees at high-end boutiques.

Christine's reluctance to leave without a solid financial plan stems from her concern for the well-being of their three children - Cayden Wyatt, 15, Hayes Logan, 14, and Grace Avery, 13. She reportedly believes that subjecting the children to multiple relocations would disrupt their stability and not be in their best interests. In her legal filing, she emphasizes the importance of establishing a stable and nurturing home environment for the children and ensuring they have the necessary resources to thrive.

It has been reported that Kevin has already fulfilled his prenuptial obligations to Christine, providing her with over $1.2 million. As part of his ongoing child support obligations, he has offered to contribute $30,000 per month towards a rental house to accommodate the children and an additional $10,000 to cover her moving expenses. Christine's primary focus remains on creating a stable and supportive environment for their children, prioritizing their well-being and long-term stability.
