Kristin Davis understands that fans are eager for the squad to come together after mending all differences, but she is helpless

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Sex and the City’ star Kristin Davis recently opened up about the infamous feud between her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall. Davis, who has played Charlotte York Goldenblatt in all 94 episodes of ‘Sex and the City’, declared that she is “not gonna waste energy” on the feud. The mother-of-two, who is all set to reprise her character in the ‘SATC’ revival series ‘And Just Like That', also shared that she wished she could “fix it.”

In an interview with The Telegraph, the ‘Couples Retreat’ star said, “You have to respect people’s wishes.” However, she has also decided not to get involved in the feud that has now taken on legendary status. Davis declared firmly, “I’m not gonna waste energy on it,” as she knows “I can’t change anybody.” The ‘Deadly Illusions’ actress, however, understands that fans of the series are eagerly waiting for the squad to come together after mending all differences, but she is helpless. Davis said, “I do understand fans’ feelings – that they’re upset… I wish I could fix it, but I can’t, it’s not in my power.”

'We didn’t think we’d still be together'

Recently, news broke that Kim Cattrall is all set to reprise her iconic character Samantha Jones in ‘And Just Like That’. It has also been said that she will appear in the Season 2 finale but won't share screen with the three leading ladies, Davis, Parker, and Cynthia Nixon. While Davis did not mention Cattrall’s return, she spoke about the rest of the crew being together for 25 years after the initial run. Davis said, “We never thought it would be that [successful], ever. We didn’t think we’d still be together 25 years later. It’s crazy, crazy.”

She also talked about how the show ushered in a renaissance when it came to how women were portrayed on television. Davis continued, “It was unheard of that women would be talking about sex and relationships in a very open way. It’s funny to think that now because it’s like, ‘Of course they would! Why wouldn’t they be?’ The culture around dating … around being single has changed a lot.”

She also highlighted the difference the world has witnessed in these years, saying, “When we began, it was a New York City thing … single career women. And we got some negative press about that, [a] ‘Who do these women think they are?’ kind of thing.” She added, “Now I feel everyone understands that women have different priorities. Women get to choose what they want to do, when they want to do it. I feel like there’s more freedom around women’s choices – but that’s not true everywhere around the world, unfortunately, though it obviously should be. I do think there’s more acceptance, is what I’m saying.”

Davis's battle with alcohol

The feud between her co-stars is, however, not the only problem in Davis’ life as she recounted her problematic episode with alcohol too. The 58-year-old TV star has always had a bittersweet relationship with alcohol. In a previous interview with Fox News, she said about her younger days, “Alcohol freed me. I was really shy and I didn’t know how to come out of my shell.” While drinking did cause havoc in her life as an actress, alcohol also helped her in expressing herself and exuding confidence. She elaborated, “I drank for the same reason I loved acting. I wanted to feel things and express myself and be free. And I'm not naturally that way.”

In the interview with The Daily Telegraph, Davis recollected she once received help from a boyfriend. Davis recalled, “It was enough of a problem for me to go, ‘This is something that could get in the way of what I want to do in life.’” She did not forget to pay homage to the person who helped her with her addiction, saying, “Luckily my first boyfriend out of school was sober – which was super-duper helpful.”
