The New York Yankees rode a dazzling performance from Gerrit Cole on Tuesday night to a win over the Seattle Mariners, snapping their losing streak in the process.
New York won't have the same luxury on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, as the Yanks are set as underdogs with Luis Castillo (4-5, 2.73 ERA) on the mound for Seattle against Jhony Brito (3-3, 5.58 ERA).
This is Brito's first appearance at the Major League level since May 20, and he fell out of the Yankees' rotation after getting rocked in the month of May this season.
Castillo is one of the best pitchers in the American League, and the Yankees' offense is still struggling despite winning on Tuesday.
Let's dive into the odds and my best bet for Wednesday's matchup:
Mariners vs. Yankees odds, run line and total
Mariners vs. Yankees prediction and pick
While the Mariners as a whole have been a bit of a disappointment to this point in the season, Castillo does not fall under that group.
The right-hander has allowed three or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 14 starts, posting a Fielding Independent Pitching of 3.27 this season. In his career against New York (four starts), Castillo is 1-1 with a 2.36 ERA.
The Yankees are going to have trouble against the Mariners All-Star, as they rank dead last in MLB in batting average and OPS over the last 15 days with Aaron Judge out of the lineup. New York is also 29th in the league in runs scored over that stretch.
Brito is not going to be able to duel with Castillo unless he has his best start of the season. The youngster has a 7.12 ERA over his last eight appearances, allowing at least two runs in seven of those outings.
The Yankees' No. 1 bullpen won't be able to save them in this game, so I'll take the Mariners to win with Castillo on the bump.
