LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Melanie Griffith raised concerns that she'd been battling skin cancer once again after she stepped out with bruises on her face and hand. The 65-year-old ‘Lolita’ actress was enjoying a solitary drive in mid-January when she first flashed the major stitch mark, which appeared to be healing, near her left ear.
Now, a source close to Griffith revealed that she still "gets regular check-ups”. "If something is amiss, it gets taken care of right away. She's not letting it get her down,” the tipster told Radar Online adding that the ‘Working Girl’ actress has kept her spirits up despite challenges along the way. Amid the cancer fears, a Florida-based doctor, who hasn’t personally treated Griffith, suggested that her most recent scars and blotchy patches can be the result of dermabrasion, a process that scrapes off the top layer of skin cells.

Dr Gabe Mirkin also noted that the unsightly bruising on Griffith’s face apparently matches the telltale signs. Most recently, the actress was spotted with the scar when she left the upscale Melanie Grant skincare salon in Beverly Hills on Thursday, May 12. "Pre-skin cancers, called actinic keratoses, start on the outer layer of skin and then move down into deeper layers to eventually become skin cancers. Anything that removes the superficial layer can remove actinic keratoses — but not skin cancers," Mirkin told RadarOnline.com, adding that it may be an uphill battle for Griffith. "After a person has skin cancers, their skin almost always ends up thinner and more wrinkled and looks more aged," he continued.
'I just look like a dork'
The proud mother of three has been battling skin cancer since 2009 and has previously been spotted multiple times with facial bruises as a result of her treatments, according to Daily Mail. She had skin cancer removed from her nose in 2017 and was seen on vacation with a Band-Aid on her face the following year. The actress even displayed her nose scar in an Instagram post, where she discussed the vicious cancer. “Bandaged again after having dermabrasion, the final step to fix the now removed basil cell skin cancer,” Griffith wrote in the caption.
The ‘Something Wild’ star continued by noting, “If any of you have it, get it fixed. If you lay in the sun, and are exposed to lots of sun, be CAREFUL. Use sunscreen. Get checked out by your Dermatologist. If you don’t have one, get one, or go to your nearest clinic and ask to be tested for it.” Describing it as a ‘scary thing’, Griffith also discussed how it took a toll on her mental health. “But I realize I have to put a Band-Aid on it, and it’s fine. I just look like a dork,” the actress told Instyle magazine at that time. “It’s a different deal when you’re older, I don’t mean it badly, and I don’t mean it like, ‘Oh, poor me,’ or anything like that. It’s just a different deal when you’re an older person. It’s different from being the hot stuff to being the old hot stuff,” she reportedly added.
