Michigan basketball is expected to pursue SEC Sixth-Man of the Year and Alabama transfer Jahvon Quinerly in the transfer portal.

The big news in the college basketball world this weekend revolves around Alabama point guard Jahvon Quinerly, who revealed his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Sunday.

Quinerly was the Co-SEC Sixth-Man of the Year in 2023. The veteran guard is now set to be one of the hottest names on the transfer market.

Roman Cleary of Tiger Blueprint reported that Memphis is "the early favorite" for Quinerly but also noted that Michigan, Miami and Auburn are "contenders" for the guard.

Michigan basketball can replace Caleb Love with Jahvon Quinerly

Quinerly was a five-star prospect in the class of 2018 but the early stages of his college career were rocky. As a recruit, he was implicated in the FBI bribery probe that resulted in the arrest of Arizona assistant Book Richardson. Instead, he landed at Villanova but he transferred away after one season with minimal playing time and controversy after he posted on social media about the Wildcats being his "2nd choice for a reason."

Alabama proved to be the right spot for Quinerly, who had to sit out one season for NCAA transfer rules. He was the MVP of the 2021 SEC Tournament and proved particularly capable in the NCAA Tournament across his three seasons with the Crimson Tide.

Quinerly entered explored the NBA Draft this year but withdrew his name at the end of May, apparently intending to return to Alabama.

Now he's exploring other options and likely looking for a starting job.

Michigan thought they'd landed highly-touted North Carolina transfer Caleb Love earlier this year but the guard decommitted after a few weeks, reportedly because he didn't have the necessary credits to transfer in.

That development left the Wolverines without a star guard. Quinerly could help make up for that miss.
