As revealed by Electronic Arts and Criterion Games on Thursday, Need for Speed Unbound is set to be the first title released in the series since Need for Speed Heat (2019), and the first developed by Burnout-dev Criterion Games since Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012). Need for Speed Unbound is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App) on Dec. 2, 2022. EA Play (via Early Access Trial) and EA Play Pro subscribers, as well as those who pre-order the Palace Edition, will have early access to the game starting on Nov. 29.
The game is being built with EA's Frostbite Engine, and is said support 4K visuals at 60 frames per second.
As seen in the newly released trailer, Need for Speed Unbound appears primed to revamp the street racing series with a new art style, featuring music and creative input from rapper A$AP Rocky and his AWGE creative agency.
The game will take place in a new open-world city called Lakeshore, a fictionalized Chicago. Players will explore the city in an offline single-player campaign or compete in cross-platform multiplayer races. As they tool around Lakeshore, players will earn in-game customization options while evading the police.
