The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to a New York Jets wide receiver set to be released.

The New York Jets are preparing for a gigantic season, as they finally have a quality quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, whom they acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. With Rodgers' arrival, he brought in some of his friends, notably former Green Bay wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb to add to a receiving corps of Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis. There was some news about one player in the wide receiver room who could be on the move.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reported that the Jets are planning on waiving wide receiver Denzel Mims if they are unable to find a trade for him. With that, the clock will be ticking as to whether the Jets find a trade partner, or if they will let Mims walk and join the team of his choosing.

But where will Mims go?

According to CBS Sports insider, the Jets had previously spoken with the Dallas Cowboys to "discern potential interest in a trade." Additionally, Anderson linked Mims to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the team's current wide receivers coach, Frisman Jackson, was his position coach at Baylor University.

When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver depth was a need for the team, especially after they traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. They had CeeDee Lamb lead the way, and Michael Gallup returned from a torn ACL. This offseason, the Cowboys added a big name to the wide receivers room in Brandin Cooks, whom they acquired from the Houston Texans.

As for the Steelers, they prioritized giving quarterback Kenny Pickett additional help on the offense after a promising rookie season. With Diontae Johnson and George Pickens leading the way, the team acquired Allen Robinson in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

Mims hasn't lived up to the hype when he declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. He was a top wide receiver for Baylor, recording 186 receptions for 2,925 yards and 28 touchdowns in four seasons. The Jets selected Mims in the second round, with hopes that he can be a top pass-catching option for then-quarterback Sam Darnold. That never came to fruition, as he was buried on the depth chart, with additional reinforcements leapfrogging him over the years, with injuries playing a role as well.

In his three seasons with the Jets, Mims recorded 42 catches for 676 receiving yards and zero touchdowns on 92 targets. Mims started in just 15-of-30 games played.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Mims. Will he be traded? Or will he be released from his contract? From there, will the Cowboys or Steelers be the team to add him to their roster?
