Nintendo just added support for passkeys.

When you set one up on your account you’ll be able to use your passkey to sign in rather than your email address or a sign-in ID and password.

Passkeys work sort of like a passwordless password. If you’re not familiar with them, we published a great explainer earlier this year. When you create a passkey, essentially two different keys are created. One is stored on the website where your account is and the other is on the device you use to verify your identity through something like a fingerprint sensor or Face ID. For someone to access your account, they need both keys.

For passkey authentication, you'll need a device running iOS 16 or later, iPadOS 16 or later, macOS 13 or later, and Android 9 or later. You’re able to register up to 10 different passkeys to your Nintendo account.

If you want to give passkeys a try on your account, go to accounts.nintendo.com on the device you want to use the passkey on. From there, sign in as normal and then go to Sign-in and security settings > Passkeys > Edit. From there, follow the on-screen prompts to set up a new passkey on your account.
