Looking at the Oak Hill Country Club scorecard, the cost to play the course, its major championship history and more for the 2023 PGA Championship.

For the fourth time in the history of the PGA Championship, the PGA of America selected Oak Hill Country Club to host their flagship tournament in 2023, the second major of the year. It's the East Course, one of two on the property, to be exact, that the best golfers in the world will take on to try and hoist the Wanamaker Trophy.

What's interesting, though, is that the course designed originally by Donald Ross and first opening in 1924 was completely redone starting in 2019 to restore the course, including a massive tree removal project while making it a more challenging test for the modern game. The 2023 PGA Championship stands as the big-time debut of the redesign, the first major tournament played at the venue since.

So what do we have in store at Oak Hill for the PGA Championship? Let's break down the par of the East Course, take a look at the scorecard, figure out the cost to play, and much more for the gem in the suburbs of Rochester, NY.

PGA Championship: What is par at Oak Hill Country Club?

Speaking to the test that course promises to provide for the 2023 PGA Championship, Oak Hill is a Par 70 course despite measuring in at 7,394 yards. It is a standard setup for a Par 70 with two Par 3s and one Par 5 on each of the first and last nine holes on the card. When you then factor in some of the tight fairways, nasty bunkers, and sloping greens, the East Course is an absolute bear to contend with.

Oak Hill Country Club scorecard: Hole names, yardages, par for PGA Championship

Let's take a look at the East Course scorecard with holes and yardages from the rennovated and renewed Oak Hill Country Club for the 2023 PGA Championship.

  • Hole No. 1 – "The Challenge": Par 4, 460 yards
  • Hole No. 2 – "Breather": Par 4, 405 yards
  • Hole No. 3 – "Vista": Par 3, 230 yards
  • Hole No. 4 – "The High and Mighty": Par 5, 615 yards
  • Hole No. 5 – "Little Poison": Par 3, 180 yards
  • Hole No. 6 – "Double Trouble": Par 4, 503 yards
  • Hole No. 7 – "Creek's Elbow": Par 4, 461 yards
  • Hole No. 8 – "Wayside": Par 4, 429 yards
  • Hole No. 9 – "Needle's Eye": Par 4, 482 yards
  • Hole No. 10 – "Council Grove": Par 4, 430 yards
  • Hole No. 11 – "Creekside": Par 3, 245 yards
  • Hole No. 12 – "Leaning Oak": Par 4, 399 yards
  • Hole No. 13 – "Hill of Fame": Par 5, 623 yards
  • Hole No. 14 – "Bunker Hill": Par 4, 320 yards
  • Hole No. 15 – "The Plateau": Par 3, 155 yards
  • Hole No. 16 – "Straight Away": Par 4, 458 yards
  • Hole No. 17 – "Twin Tees": Par 4, 502 yards
  • Hole No. 18 – "Going' Home": Par 4, 497 yards

As you can see in the Par 70 layout, Oak Hill doesn't offer much of a reprieve. And with the way the PGA of America is planning on tucking pins for the championship in 2023, it's going to be a thrilling and grueling test, even for the best players in the world, to shoot low in Rochester.

Oak Hill Country Club major championship, PGA Championship history

The East Course at Oak Hill is the only venue that has hosted the PGA Championship, US Open, US Amateur, US Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and Ryder Cup in the United States. Here's a look at every major championship and big tournament that has been hosted at the Rochester gem, with the winner listed as well.

  • 1949 US Amateur, Charles Coe
  • 1956 US Open, Cary Middlecoff
  • 1968 US Open, Lee Trevino
  • 1980 PGA Championship, Jack Nicklaus
  • 1984 US Senior Open, Miller Barber
  • 1989 US Open, Curtis Strange
  • 1995 Ryder Cup, Europe 14.5-13.5
  • 1998 US Amateur, Hank Kuehne
  • 2003 PGA Championship, Shaun Micheel
  • 2008 Senior PGA Championship, Jay Haas
  • 2013 PGA Championship, Jason Dufner
  • 2019 Senior PGA Championship, Ken Tanigawa

What's interesting, however, is that the extensive project to rennovate and redesign the course should make it an entirely different test in 2023 than it was in any of the other previous major tournaments that have come to this venue.

How much is a membership at Oak Hill Country Club?

As a country club that is over 100 years old, it shouldn't be the least bit surprising that the historic club is quite pricey to be a member of. It reportedly can cost $75,000-$100,000 just as the initiation fee in addition to $10,000-$25,000 per year for a membership. That's quite a pretty penny, though the prices vary on age, location, and other factors that could qualify members.

How much does it cost to play Oak Hill Country Club?

There is no definitive word on how much the green fees are to play Oak Hill Country Club, though it is mentioned that there is an additional cost for members and, obviously, for guests as well. As a private club, you have to be a guest of a member to play the Rochester course if you are not a member yourself.
