Melissa Gorga's Memorial Day backfired when the singer was chastised for promoting products

FRANKLIN LAKES, NEW JERSEY: Celebrities spent the unofficial first weekend of summer doing everything from honoring military troops to spending time with family. Melissa Gorga's Memorial Day backfired, however, when the singer was chastised for promoting products instead of commemorating fallen soldiers.

For many Americans, Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, however, the season truly begins with the summer solstice in mid-June. The annual holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the deaths of US military members while serving in the United States armed services. Since the end of the Revolutionary War, 646,596 American troops have perished in action and over 539,000 have died from non-combat-related reasons. From 1868 through 1970, it was observed on May 30. Several Hollywood celebrities paid homage to the yearly holiday, while others opted to capitalize on the event.

Melissa Gorga poses in co-ords from Envy

Memorial Day may have looked a little different in recent years due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic, but that didn't stop celebrities from celebrating the day — which fell on Monday, May 29 — with some great foods. The annual event honors individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces and also celebrates the unofficial start of summer. As a result, it's hardly surprising that some celebrities honored the day by firing up their grills.

Melissa, on the other hand, was dressed in matching co-ord outfits from her own brand, Envy, with the print of the American flag as she posed with a little girl standing on a deck. In the captions, she wrote, "Matchy Matchy!! @envybymg has the cutest matching star-spangled sets for mommy and me! envybymg.com #rhonj #envybymg."

'All you care about is money'

The Internet reacted to her promotional post on Memorial Day as they commented on the post, "Memorial Day is a day of remembrance; just in case you forgot while trying to push products." Others called her out for selling products at such exuberant price, "225$ for a red white and blue set." Another person described, "The prices for these are hilarious." One quipped, "Hahah girlll don’t think we saw you delete the tacky post eating a dirty hotdog thinking it’s the 4th of July." Another wrote, "Figures.. a day to reflect and remember.. @melissagorga only cares about sales."

One user called her out, "While pushing a product you can also include a message to thank our late service members." Another person chimed in, "Always about making the $$$ - forget the Veterans right. And are u trying g to steal Danielle’s idea - come on." One follower commented, "1st you disgrace all the men and women who gave their lives for you and your family and all the people within America by trying to sell something on this day instead of honoring them. And 2nd you use a child who isn’t even your daughter… like how more obvious do you have to make it that all you care about is 💰 like sheesh." One user asked, "…..proceeds from sales going to Wounded Warriors? Tunnel to Towers?"
