LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Cillian Murphy is all set to appear on Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated film ‘Oppenheimer’, scheduled for a July 21 release, marking his comeback on the silver screen since ‘A Quiet Place Part II.’ In his sixth collaboration with Nolan, Murphy would be seen playing the role of J Robert Oppenheimer, who is often dubbed the “father of the atomic bomb” for his role in the Manhattan Project.
Filming of the project reportedly took place in April 2022 at Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey as well as near the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Around the same time, Murphy revealed that he decided to move his family out of London after spending 14 years in the city with his wife Yvonne and their two sons Malachy and Aran because he was not a fan of his children’s “posh accents.”
‘We wanted the kids to be Irish’
Murphy appeared in the Armchair Expert podcast last year and shared that he lived in London with his family for over a decade until 2015. He said, “We were in London for 14 years, both our kids were born there and we only came back to Dublin in 2015. It's kind of an Irish story to move away, do your thing and come home, that seems to be a common narrative for Irish people.” “And then we wanted the kids to be Irish,” he added. “They were sort of at that age where they were pre-teens, they had very posh English accents, and I wasn’t appreciating that too much so we decided to come back,” Murphy continued.
“And you know, parents are at a certain age, it was just a nice time to come home,” the actor added. When asked if he can ever visualize himself living in a place like Los Angeles, the ‘Peaky Blinders’ star said he is always happy to be in the west coast as visitor rather than being a permanent residence. “I love visiting and I love the food and I do love the weather. I don’t know, I just feel European, I just feel Irish. I’d feel like a bit of an interloper if I lived in California, I couldn’t envisage living there permanently,” Murphy explained.
‘Or maybe I'm just old’
During the interview, Murphy also shared that he was enjoying watching his children grow. He revealed that his sons are more like friends than brothers because of their two-year age gap. “My lads definitely kicked the s*** out of each other quite often when they were younger but that’s boys. They’re great pals.”
Speaking in another interview about his move to Dublin, Murphy also shared that he liked not being papped in the Irish capital as he did often during his time in London. “I really don’t go out much, and people are so underwhelmed when they encounter me, so I'm very happy with that. And I'm always happy to chat,” he said.
“What I don't like is people surreptitiously taking photographs, which someone said is like the amateur Stasi. It's so f***ing weird. I've been sat on the tube and people have started filming me. I don’t want to be like, ‘poor f***ing celebrities,’” the actor stated. “But I think this thing of having cameras everywhere is something we need to sort out. Or maybe I'm just old,” he added.
