'Skins, meat, fashion accessories - these extraordinary apex animals deserve better,' said Bindi Irwin

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bindi Irwin commemorated her late father's heritage in honor of World Crocodile Day on Sunday, June 17. The 24-year-old Wildlife Warrior posted a picture of her adored father Steve taking a picture of an open-mouthed crocodile. In the vintage image, her late father appeared unafraid as he crouched dangerously near the creature on the bank of a river.

"From our family to yours, wishing you a very happy #WorldCrocodileDay," Bindi wrote in her post. "Celebrating Dad's favourites, our beautiful modern-day dinosaurs." The famous Australian TV personality continued by warning viewers not to ever purchase anything made from crocodiles. "Skins, meat, fashion accessories - these extraordinary apex animals deserve better," the 24-year-old wrote.

What is World Crocodile Day?

A worldwide awareness campaign called "World Croc Day" raises awareness of the condition of alligators and crocodiles that are at risk of extinction. It is celebrated on June 17, as per several reports. The Crocodile Research Coalition and Belize Zoo initiated the global day, which has been commemorated since 2017.

Steve's legacy

Steve, who is still remembered as the crocodile hunter, established the standard for ensuring that other people treated animals and the environment with the same regard and care. He impacted the world with his extraordinary conservation efforts and ground-breaking concepts. Irwin spent his 20s working as a trapper, clearing troublesome crocodiles from areas with people. He offered his services for free in exchange for the ability to maintain the creatures for the park rather than using them for handbags and meat. He once said that he wished to be remembered for his "passion and enthusiasm. "Conservation is my job, my whole persona," Steve said in a heart-melting interview. He added, "If I can't get animals into people's hearts, there will be no conservation, there'll be absolutely no love for our wild animals and that would be devastating."

Steve died unexpectedly on Sep 4, 2006, at the age of 44 from a stingray bite while he was recording a documentary about Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Now, his children Robert and Bindi are carrying on his legacy.
