If the San Diego Padres want to get back into the race for the NL West, then they should find a way to play the Colorado Rockies every game. The Rockies are 26-40 after losing their last six games and the Padres are going for the sweep today. While Colorado is last in the West, the Padres are fourth at 31-33.

On the mound in this one it is Blake Snell against Dinelson Lamet. Snell is 2-6 with a 4.06 ERA in 12 starts this season and hasn't allowed a run over his last 12.0 innings of work. Speaking of 12, Lamet's ERA is 12.42 in 12 appearances and 2 starts for the Rockies.

As this losing streak continues the Rockies are underdogs at home again today.

Padres vs. Rockies odds, run line and total

Padres vs. Rockies prediction and pick

Lamet is a recent addition to the Colorado rotation after starting the year in the bullpen. His last two outings have been starts and he has worked three innings in each with eight total runs allowed. He has eight strikeouts to two walks in those six innings, but has allowed 13 hits. His FIP is 5.01 which indicates that he has been better than an ERA north of 12. With more innings of work his ERA is bound to drop, but the Rockies are still at a big disadvantage with him on the mound.

The Rockies hitters are at an even bigger disadvantage because they're facing a lefty in Blake Snell. They are 29th in baseball in OPS against lefties and even while playing half of their games at Coors field are last in home runs with 11. Randal Grichuk has been great against lefties with a 1.084 OPS so getting him more at-bats will be helpful, but with Kris Bryant out, they lose another one of their best hitters against lefties.

Snell has been fantastic lately, not just his last two starts, but in his last three he has only allowed one earned run and has 21 strikeouts during that stretch. He has a great matchup to continue this stretch of great play. In June the Rockies are 23rd in OPS and the under is 37-28-1 in their matchups. I'll take the under in this one.
