Are you interested in Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour this week? We’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Spotlight Hour on April 19.

What is Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour?

Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour is a feature that takes place almost every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., local time. All Spotlight Hours for a specific month are announced by Niantic Labs the week before. These can be found by visiting the official Pokemon GO news blog or by checking in on trusted news sources.

Each Spotlight Hour features a different Pokemon from the last and typically comes with a passive bonus such as extra XP or candies.

Who is the Next Spotlight Hour Pokemon?

Oddish is the next Spotlight Hour Pokemon — taking over the feature on Tuesday, April 19.

Oddish is a grass and poison-type from the Kanto region. Also known as the “Weed” Pokemon, Oddish may be best known for its ability to sell an exuberant amount of Pokemon-shaped succulent planters — second only, perhaps, to Bulbasaur. It buries its body into the ground to absorb the nutrients in the soil. The more nutritious the soil, the glossier its leaves will be.

Oddish’s PokeDex number is #043. It evolves into Gloom using 25 candies, which can then evolve into Vileplume or Bellossom using 100 candies flat or with a Sun Stone, respectively.

Trainers who participate in this Spotlight will earn double the Stardust.

Can Oddish be Shiny?

Yes, Oddish can be shiny! Oddish was released with the game’s launch in July 2016. Its shiny variant debuted with the New Taipei City Safari Zone in October 2019.

Shiny Oddish takes on a greener hue with its previously blue body becoming entirely viridian and its leaves tinting yellow. Shiny Gloom follows suit with a green skew to its color palette, as does shiny Vileplume.

Shiny Bellossom, however, is already primarily green. Therefore, its shiny variant becomes purple, instead! Only the leaves of its skirt stay the same.

Is Oddish Spotlight Hour Worth It?

Ultimately, this depends on what’s important to the trainer. Neither Vileplume nor Bellossom are particularly strong grass-type attackers. Vileplume is also typically outdone by other poison-type Pokemon in both PvP and PvE content.

However, Oddish is a very much beloved Pokemon in the community — so we certainly won’t fault anyone for participating.

Trainers missing Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, and/or Bellossom are encouraged to participate.

Additionally, thanks to the bonus during this feature, we also recommend popping a Star Piece and taking advantage to hoard Stardust.

More information about Oddish’s Spotlight Hour feature this week can be found in our Oddish Spotlight Hour guide, including the best moveset for its evolutions.
