Premier League team of the week after gameweek six of the 2023/24 season.

Gameweek six provided plenty of the thrills and spills we've come to expect from the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

Top teams like Liverpool and Manchester City continued to impress, Newcastle United put eight past Sheffield United in one of the competition's biggest ever wins, and the north London derby was the enthralling spectacle we were all hoping it would be.

And after all that fun, here's 90min's team of the week...

Premier League team of the week: Gameweek 6

GK: Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace vs Fulham wasn't exactly the greatest game of football in the world, but it did at least give us a top quality goalkeeping performance.

Sam Johnstone is set to keep new signing Dean Henderson out of the Palace starting XI for a few weeks yet thanks to impressive five saves in the 0-0 draw on Saturday.

RB: Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United)

We would like to take this time to acknowledge every single person who had Kieran Trippier in their FPL teams this week: well done to you all.

Trippier bagged himself a whopping 18 FPL points at the weekend thanks to his hat-trick of assists in the 8-0 win over Sheffield United.

CB: James Tarkowski (Everton)

Everton finally won their first Premier League game of the season at the weekend, and that was largely due to the magnificent performance of James Tarkowski.

The centre-back simultaneously pocketed Yoane Wissa and was Everton's main attacking threat at the other end too - scoring a goal and assisting another in the 3-1 win over Brentford.

CB: Jonny Evans (Manchester United)

The year is 2023 and Jonny Evans is getting into Premier League team of the weeks for his performances for Manchester United.

The centre-back repaid Erik ten Hag's faith in him during his first start for Man Utd since 2015 with a very composed showing at the heart of the defence on Saturday night. Evans even tallied up a pinpoint assist for good measure.

LB: Dan Burn (Newcastle United)

Dan Burn, like basically all of his teammates on Sunday, was one of Newcastle United's goalscorers in their 8-0 trouncing of Sheffield United.

The goal capped off what's been a very good few days for the defender, who also impressed in the 0-0 draw with Milan in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

DM: Boubacar Kamara (Aston Villa)

Boubacar Kamara has quietly been one of the better midfielders in the Premier League over the last few weeks.

He continued his fine form against a rather woeful Chelsea team on Sunday, winning back possession for his side on five occasions and providing the building blocks for Villa's attacks with nine passes into the final third.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle United

90min understands that Newcastle United are set to tie down Bruno Guimaraes for a few more years, and judging by Sunday's performance that is quite a good bit of business by the Magpies.

The Brazilian once again shone for Newcastle on Sunday, providing the assist for Miguel Almiron's goal before bagging a goal of his own five minutes later.

CM: James Maddison (Tottenham Hotspur)

In the biggest game of his Tottenham Hotspur career to day, James Maddison put in arguably his best peformance for his new club so far.

The midfielder was at his creative best on Sunday and assisted both of Son Heung-min's goals at the Emirates Stadium.

RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

After a down year by his standards last season, Mohamed Salah is truly back to his best at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Egyptian made it six consecutive games with a goal contribution by tucking away a penalty in the weekend win over West Ham United.

ST: Heung-min Son (Tottenham Hotspur)

Son Heung-min has now scored more north London derby goals than Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie.

He's an all-time Tottenham great, and his brace against Arsenal at the weekend proved why.

LW: Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)

Yes, another Newcastle United player.

Can you blame us though? Anthony Gordon put in a player of the match performance in his side's 8-0 win after coming on for the injured Harvey Barnes, providing an assist and scoring a stunning goal of his own in the emphatic win.
