The Proton Drive encrypted cloud storage service launched for Mac users today.

Swiss technology company Proton has been slowly rolling out access to Drive. It started with web access last September, then we got Android and iOS apps in December, the Windows app appeared in July, and now the Mac app has launched.

In a blog post, Proton founder and CEO Andy Yen says the Mac app release is a key milestone because the service is platform agnostic and can now be used across all hardware and operating systems seamlessly. Yen also points out Proton Drive on Mac is important because iCloud doesn't offer end-to-end encryption by default for files and folders. With Proton Drive, it does automatically.

When PCMag reviewed Proton Drive earlier this year we found it to be the best solution if security and privacy are your main concern in a cloud storage app. However, such peace of mind does come at a price.

Seeing as it's Thanksgiving, that price is substantially lower for the next few days thanks to a 50% off Black Friday Sale offer. It's possible to get a Proton Drive Plus account with 200GB of storage for $29.88 for the first year, which is a saving of $31. There's also a 500GB Proton Unlimited plan for $104.28 for the first year. That saves $52 and unlocks access to Proton Mail, Calendar, VPN, and Pass.
